crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (In a sarcastic mood)

-VD: . . . That's a sentiment we haven't heard in a while, actually. What happened?-
I was trying to copy my Sims back-ups to disc, right? Even though I compressed it all into a rar file, it's still pretty big, so it's gonna take a while. So I get it going and pull up Spider Solitaire to kill the time. I'm alternating between watching the burning and trying to win my game when suddenly, for no reason --
MY COMPUTER REBOOTS.
Seriously -- my monitor goes black, and the next thing I know, the computer's restarting.
Naturally, I am pissed. I am even more pissed when I try to get back on track, and Sonic tells me it has a problem reading the disc. "Okay," I think, "this probably got messed up when it rebooted. I'll try another." I get a fresh disc, stick it in, and fire it up -- this time with no card game, to be on the safe side. It gets a lot further this time --
but then it EJECTS the disc again, claiming a problem reading it!
So I go, "fuck it" and go back to what I was doing. I'm browsing the web, waiting to see if there's Rifting afoot (Doc's sticking close to JD at the moment), and I happen to bring up AIM. Now, I don't know what I did or what I clicked on -- but you know that little ad that displays on the very top?
Yeah, I suddenly started getting browser windows with that in it. And yes, windows, plural. INFINITELY RESPAWNING ONES. If I didn't keep my mouse in position and clicked fast enough, they just kept piling up like crazy! I tried to shut down AIM, hoping that would help, but I couldn't because of the respawning windows! I couldn't even get to the Start menu to log out or shut down! I had to resort to turning the computer off directly by holding down the power button.
-M2: Holy shit.-
Yeah, not a good day in computer land. Coupled with an annoyingly-busy Monday (and my coworker is STILL out sick, unfortunately), and. . . yeah.
-OD: Is that why you haven't written anything?-
A little. I'd like to, but I'm in that mindset of "get a new computer" and -- well, if I can't make proper backups. . . . Though maybe a trip to FYE is in order, I think they sell flash drives.
-VD2: That might be better than DVDs at this point, yes. Why do you use DVDs if you know about the other kinds of storage?-
I dunno. Familiar.
So, yeah. Computer woes are making me think it's about time for a new, more gaming-oriented system. I think I may troll [livejournal.com profile] thesims2 looking for all those "will my computer run this" posts. Might help.
-VD2: Probably. And you might actually be able to play FreeTime.-
Ye Gods, I know. It'll be weird. Anyone have any computer suggestions for me? Places you went? Anybody with Vista who can tell me about it, since I'm probably gonna be stuck with it?

This has made me feel better. I believe I shall edit.
-OD: *tentacles nodnod* And then tomorrow or the next day you can see about getting a flash drive and making backups that way.-
Yeah. Maybe tomorrow night.
-RPD: You also have a journal entry to make.-
Indeed I do. Doc's making plans to go see Aubrey in the Gauche now. Recent events make him want to check up on all available members of the fanclub.
-DW: I'm honestly surprised he wasn't worried MORE about Aubrey during this whole mess. I know he likes JD, but he really cares about Aubrey.-
Which is why he considers it a good thing [livejournal.com profile] _coherent was moving through that whole mess. Saved Aubrey from going into the Rift and having to deal with it all. Hope that's going better, incidentally! *waves*
Right. Fanfic. And probably Fun With Shorts. In the mood for that stupid prom one.

If you custom-order a computer online, you can choose to have XP instead of Vista. That's usually a better option anyway, because you get to choose all your computer's specifications instead of getting stuck with a generic factory model. I got mine at the Lenovo website, so you might try checking them out. I don't want Vista either. ;)

Also, forgot to say, some games won't run on Vista without jumping through some hoops. Or at all. So if you do decide to go with Vista anyway, check your existing games first to make sure.

Hmmm. I might give it a look, just to see what they've got.

Yeah, that's a reason I want to avoid Vista -- I've heard Sims 2 can be iffy. Not all the time, but I've heard of problems.

Vista sucks (IMO). I can find nothing good about it.

However, with my computer dead I'm stuck with the laptop...and the laptop has it. I should just count my blessings that I have a working computer at all. :/

My boyfriend told me to avoid Vista at all costs. He said that he got it for his daughter's computer (or his computer, I can't remember which) and it just sucks wind. If you can, get XP.

You can take a peek at www.tigerdirect.com too. I know they have some XP machines. Just another place to look. :o)
