By [livejournal.com profile] mayhemmanaged06: Top Five Back to the Future Crossovers You Didn't Write

1. BTTF/Terminator 2 -- Although Austin the T-1000 shows up in one of my humor stories starring J.C. Jones, I never got past the planning stages when it came to a serious crossover. I like both movies, they just -- have rather incompatible ideas of time travel. Plus I was never sure whether it should be Hill Valley or Hell Valley that was in the T-2 universe. I had a couple of ideas though: Doc having seen part of the fight at Cyberdyne, spotting a new terminator in Hill Valley with his family, and teaming up with Sarah and John eventually to kill it -- or -- Hell Valley!Doc and Sarah ending up in the same asylum and escaping to try and stop Judgement Day. The latter's idea got partially reworked into "World of Darkness" with Josephine. I actually shipped Doc/Sarah in the later story -- don't ask me why.

2. BTTF/Corpse Bride -- Yeah, I finally managed to pull this one off with "Train Troubles," but there's another one I had in mind. I'm sure you can guess what it is -- that idea where Victor really IS part of the BTTF universe. This would be a modern-day (well, sort of) Victor, who moved to California with his folks when Marty was 16 and he was 18. He ends up friends with Doc and Marty, and ends up joining them on their time travel adventures. I have no idea how I'd write it (it's hard to do the movies with a second person around!) but it occasionally pops up in my head, so. . . .

3. BTTF/American McGee's Alice -- Again, "Train Troubles" pulled this off, but how many of you remember DocWolf and MartyFox complaining back when HatterDoc first arrived about my "American McGee's Marty" bunnies? That was a replacement crossover I had in mind -- Marty was Alice, Doc the Hatter, Clara the White Rabbit -- it basically followed the replacement structure of "Marty In Wonderland." One change I made is that the robotic Hatter ISN'T a changed Doc in this version. Instead, I, uh, got him mind-raped by the Queen and driven the BAD insane while she built a robotic duplicate to take his place. He does manage to give Marty the DeadTime watch, but ends up dying because of mortal wounds inflicted by his robotic self. I also had an idea about the meta-essence the friendlies gave containing part of their personalities (like if you could get meta-essence from Rabbit's corpse, you'd see about his obsession with lateness). The whole thing is actually written up in Overly Plotted Bunnies, but I'm not so interested in writing it now.

4. BTTF/Discworld -- Something I'd love to see at some point, especially if it was done with Rincewind. Doc and Marty visiting the absolutely weird and wild world of the Disc would be awesome, I'm sure. No plans to write this one yet, though -- mostly because I'm still working my way through the books. (I'm up to "Guards, Guards!" Being introduced to the Night Watch, who look great. :D)

5. BTTF/Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog -- I actually just came up with this a few days ago while trying to think up fandoms for the meme. I dunno how it would work, but Billy meeting the Doc and Marty could be cool, right? (Maybe he'd try to steal the time machine to save Penny?)

Ah, thanks - these are all quite interesting, in various ways.

1) The difference in time travel can always be handwaved as the result of a different development process. Heck, maybe Doc's work is (part of) the basis of the Cyberdyne process, and so someone comes back in time to make sure said work makes it . . . Back to the Future! (Ba-dum-ching!) And, of course, set it far enough in BttF's future and someone (probably Marty) can make a crack about the T-800 looking like the current governor. ;-)

2) For some weird reason, ever since you first mentioned this I've had this mental image of Victor wearing a yellow Hawaiian shirt. Make of that what you will.

3) I'm sure everyone is quite glad you went in a different direction with this.

4) This one sounds cracktastically funny, and there's even time travel in one of the later Guard books (OrSoIHeard).

5) Partially thanks to you, by this point I'm pretty much convinced that BttF, Narbonic, and Dr. Horrible all take place in the same vast, Mad-Science-y universe. In fact, the Billy-steals-the-DeLorean plot was one of two ideas that occurred during a recent brainstorming session about fic for said 'verse.

The other, which I believe I'll tackle after my current project is finished, involves Marty getting a college recruitment letter from the Henchmen's Guild. During the brainstorm, this spiraled out into a couple other characters getting letters as well - one I'll leave a surprise (it's basically a throwaway gag in the last paragraph), but the other one I realized when I came out of the Madness Place is pretty much the lead-in to your rumored BttF/Narbonic fic (i.e., Doc gets invited to a conference on Time Travel). I actually wasn't intending to mention it until it was written, but as a quasi-professional courtesy, I figured I'd offer to let you take a look before it goes public - would you be interested in that?

1. Actually, that was part of my original idea -- the terminator in the third story is after Doc, and was sent by a RESISTANCE fighter. Doc's work was the basis for Skynet's method of time travel, and the guy thought, "if we get rid of the inventor, Skynet can't go back in time and screw things up for us." Of course, Future!John knows paradoxes and got pretty upset (and sometimes sends another terminator back to help -- I'd so love to see a good-guy T-1000).

2. *snork* Amusing! Too bad I'm shit at fanart. . . .

3. The muses agree with you very strongly. I actually had a similar idea for Silent Hill (damn, I should have listed that!) at one point, but since I've never played any of those games. . . .

4. Yeah, I heard about that too! I'm looking forward to it. :D Maybe eventually I'll figure out something.

5. LOL, I see. Don't forget Girl Genius, though, that's gotta slot in somewhere. (I really wish there had been a proper crossover between those two series, they're both awesome.) But yeah, Dr. Horrible in the Narbonic verse? I can really see that.

And really? I have to admit, I'm intrigued. Sure, I'd like a look once it's all settled. :)
