crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (feeling sparky/creative)

Today was a pretty good Saturday overall -- I had a good time at the mall. Weather was a vast improvement over December's trip.
-M2: I know, it was in the 40s! That's practically a heat wave these days!-
Tell me about it! Anyway, I hit all my usual shops. I hit Borders first, and used my gift card to buy a book:

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
-TTV: . . . What?-
Somebody rewrote P & P to include zombie mayhem. I read the first few pages, and it looks FUCKING HILARIOUS. There's just something about Victorian-age women talking about fighting ZOMBIES that's really, really funny. The cover though, as you can see, is rather gruesome. Freaked my mom out.
-VD: I'm a little surprised it has no apparent effect on you.-
-TTV: *polite cough*-
-VD: . . . Good point.-
*snork* Anyway, I made a quick circuit of Hot Topic -- nothing there -- before hitting Newbury. They'd changed the store's layout, so I spent some time just wandering around and getting used to the new floor plan. Then I managed to blow my entire gift card (and then some) on three items:

Asylum Escape Sarah and T-1000. There was actually another set of T-2 mates (Motorcycle T-1000 and Battle-Damaged Sarah, but I decided to draw the line there)

G-2 era Ray and a glow-in-the-dark Slimer. I saw these before, and I couldn't help but fall in love with them. Besides, the other Bustermates need their "team pet." (There were also a set of ugly-looking creatures that were apparently from the GAME -- I decided to skip them because they actually managed to creep me out)

The GOOD DVD copy of Up. This is the purchase that caused me to go over -- I was determined to get the version of Up that had more extras than just the two shorts Pixar puts on every DVD (the theatrical short and the movie companion short). Of course, the good copy was more expensive, but what are you gonna do?
-M: No Alice or Corpse Bride stuff, huh?-
Eh, I wasn't really expecting any. I really did get into both fandoms waaaay too late.
-HD: Be of good cheer -- you're getting a sequel to the former, which could mean more toys.-
True! Or maybe a re-release of the old ones. Either way.
Anyway, after that was lunch at the Subway in the food court, then up to Dave and Buster's for games. Played some more Arcade Guitar Hero -- I'm actually getting really good at Beginner (the stage where you just use the strum bar). Got 95% on both songs I attempted. Also kicked ass at Mario Kart again, but I've had lots of practice on that.
-VD2: You know, for all your reluctance to get the behind the wheel of an actual car, you seem to have a soft spot for driving games.-
Hey, in driving games, if you crash, nobody actually gets hurt. Real-life crazy drivers are dangerous.
-D: She's got you there.-
Yeah. Anyway, finished off the trip with a hot chocolate from Ben & Jerry's. Which was tasty, but kept trying to go down the wrong pipe. (Also burned my tongue on it, but that seems to happen with EVERY cup of hot chocolate I get that isn't homemade.) So yeah, a good trip.
-OD: Even if it did result in more toys you have no room for.-
At the nonce -- I'm doing some more shelf-cleaning tomorrow. I've got a few ideas on how I could rearrange some stuff. . . .
In other news, Simon's had a lovely welcome to the Nexus, and I actually inspired someone to go watch the music videos he's from, plus "Geeks In Love" because that's cool too (and by the same people). Incidentally, I noticed something interesting about the latter video -- in the opening credits, the Too Much Spare Time Animation picture shows Simon and his squid! I'd noticed the squid before, but never Simon.
-RPD: *chuckles* I suppose this means you've settled on the idea of the boy from that couple being Simon's younger brother?-
Yup! They actually do look a little alike -- both red-heads with big noses. So yes, the boy from "Geeks In Love" is Carey Casey Garfunkle. Simon's parents weren't exactly good at naming kids, as you can see.
Also, I do believe I owe you guys fic. I'll be putting the Victor/Alice stuff in a post after this one (since I have to do the table as well), but you have have your Drabbles88 here. Warning, this one's a little on the depressing side:

71. Drunk
They’d been drunk when they made the initial decision. Marty had just poured them both another drink from the minibar, and Jennifer was slugging hers down when suddenly he turned to her and said, “Hey – why don’t we just get married here? There’s that Chapel O’Love place down the street. We could be in and out in five minutes. Boom, married. What do you say?”
She’d laughed at the time, finding the idea hilarious in a way only a drunk can. “Sure, why not! Let’s go tomorrow!” she’d agreed, waving her glass around. “First thing in the morning! Whoo!” And they’d dissolved into giggles, for once completely content with their lives.
Of course, when morning finally arrived, both of them were suffering the hangovers from hell and were in no position to go anywhere. They stayed in bed most of the day, nursing their aching heads. Jennifer had pretty much forgotten Marty’s idea until he commented that they’d have to hit the Chapel O’Love tomorrow. She’d turned and stared at him then, her sober mind utterly baffled by the idea. “You really want to get married in some cheap, quickie place?”
“Yeah! I mean--” Marty faltered a little, fidgeting under her gaze. “The important thing is that we end up married, right? And this way, we don’t have to waste money on a big ceremony, with our families sniping at each other and all the hassle of picking out flowers and tuxes and--” His voice cracked slightly. “Best men. . . .”
Jennifer continued staring at him for a little while, processing that. She supposed her boyfriend did have the right idea. The important thing was that she and the man she loved ended up married. But – she actually did want the big ceremony, warts and all. She’d always imagined getting married in a church, or maybe a park. With the long white dress and veil, and fresh flowers, and a nice catered dinner afterwards with a big cake. And if their families argued, or a bridesmaid dropped out, or the tuxes didn’t quite fit – well, that was a risk with every wedding, wasn’t it?
But it was also true that Marty simply couldn’t afford that wedding now. Not with his hand busted and a music career out of reach. And he and his family were on rather strained terms at the moment, so there was little chance of help from them. And the look on his face when he mentioned “best men. . . .” The wave of pity for him (that was becoming disturbingly common whenever they talked) overwhelmed her. She couldn’t put him through that. Not if he didn’t really want it.
So the next day, they’d gotten her a reasonably nice dress, found Marty a printed “tux” shirt, got two people to agree to be witnesses and a pair of rings, and gotten married at the Chapel O’Love. And as the nice tourist took their picture in front of the place, Jennifer tried to ignore just how disappointed she really felt.

-M: . . . Fic of the bad future for me and Jen. Thanks.-
I'm sorry, it's the first thing that came to mind! I've been kind of in a wedding mood lately -- yes, you can blame Victor/Alice for that. Anyway, it was while I was in this mood that I decided to try for another Drabbles88, in hopes of breaking my creative rut. I'd actually been thinking about if anyone had done any fics about Marty and Jennifer's wedding (I can only think of one that actually deals with the wedding itself, rather than circumstances leading up to it, off the top of my head -- one of MJ Holmes's fics. And even then, the bulk of the story is about minor changes to history causing MAJOR problems, the wedding doesn't show up until the last chapter), and then, for some reason, I got to thinking about the Chapel O'Love ceremony. And this resulted. Jennifer and Marty are supposed to be on some trip to Vegas or someplace similar, though I haven't thought of a reason why yet. As you can see, this is kind of the beginning of all the bad stuff we see in the movie -- Jennifer getting regularly "tranked," and the implication that she's doing stuff for Marty out of pity more than love. It's stated in the novelization that she wanted a big fancy wedding -- I wanted to show her thought processes in settling for this.
-J: Man, I'm glad that future got erased.-
-AJ: Yeah, but -- don't you and your Marty end up eloping too?-
-J: Yeah, but the circumstances are way different. Plus I get a nicer dress.-
:p Anyway, enjoy the angst.

All right, this entry's gone on long enough -- I have a table to fix up. Onward!

I don't know how familiar you are with the original "Pride & Prejudice", but I found that a fun way to read P&P&Z was side-by-side with the original. That way, you can see what boring conversations were sharply edited or excised completely, as well as what ultraviolet zombie mayhem (tm) was added wholesale.

I know the basic plot and everything, but I've never read the book. Perhaps I should scare up a copy and see what's what. :)
