Fanficcy Ramblings
May. 16th, 2010 10:51 pmListened to "Almost Alice" today, the new CD I got. Worth the money -- I liked pretty much all the songs on there. Ripped a bunch to my MP3 player, so that's good. It's put me in a rather Alicey mood, though I'm not coming up with much inspiration for "Condolences."
-HD: *pouts*-
I'm sorry -- my problem is, I have two very strong scenes in mind: Alice's meetings with the Hatter and the Queen of Hearts. Those are the two I need to write to help explain some things in "The Solicitor's Ward." The rest -- I'm not getting too much of a connection to. (Though it was kind of fun to write Centipede and his hatred of anything not insectoid.)
-VD2: Mmm. . .maybe the solution is to write out the two sections you feel the best about, then see if you want to expand the story, or just work it into a two-parter.-
Maybe. I also have another Victor/Alice short that I'm trying to mush into shape, hopefully you'll see that soon.
In other news, my mind's still rather Ghostbustery, so I'll entertain you with my ramblings on the Inkwellian version of the movies. The basic plot is pretty much unchanged -- guys get kicked out of university, set up ghost-busting business, have to fight evil Sumerian god -- but lots of other stuff gets altered. For one thing, I don't want to mess with everyone's ages too much, so Marty and Victor would have to be interns or research students or something under Doc who leave the university with him. For another, I need to find roles for Lucy, Dee, and Steve & Gary at some point. (Well, Dee in human form, as of course I'd go with a modified DeLorean/Ecto-1.) The main change, though:
I'm combining the roles of Janine/Dana and Egon/Louis into Alice and Victor.
Ally mentioned before that Victor could easily fit into Louis's role, and I agree. Since I can't really fit Lucy into Dana's role (Lucy and Marty??), I decided to twist the story a little. It's Victor and Alice who live in Spook Central, and they start this weird budding romance thing when Alice ends up hired to answer the phones after she calls the guys up to investigate her evil fridge. Victor and Alice both get Terror Dog-ized, meaning the Busters are down a member when they go to confront Gozer. Victor and Alice manage to fight their possession just long enough to help hold Gozer in place when the other three do the "cross the streams" trick, just so they have something to do. Not only do I like this idea for some of the visuals (tell me Victor and Alice playing Keymaster and Gatekeeper isn't a LITTLE funny), it actually helps with the plot of the next movie! I always thought that what happened to the Busters in II, what with New York deciding not to believe them, was kind of stupid. But if it got out that one of the Busters (and their receptionist) was one of the catalysts for the whole Gozer incident -- well, then it turns from not believing them to not TRUSTING them. Add to that the whole "sued by Stay-Puft," and we've got something.
As for Part II, we keep the combined roles -- Victor and Alice get married in the time skip, and they have their son Chester, who is targeted by Vigo. (I just realized this also neatly brings together the whole Egon/Janine/Louis thing into a single couple -- bonus!) The plot of the second movie doesn't change much either, only Alice doesn't have to deal with single motherhood like poor Dana. She, Victor, and Chester DO have to flee to Marty's apartment when the tub tries to eat them, though. I'm not entirely sure how Chester gets stolen by the bad guy -- Victor gets thrown in the asylum with the other boys, yes, but how do I get Alice briefly out of the house? Hmmm. . . But he ends up in the Museum, the boys mount a rescue effort with Lady Liberty, Doc is briefly possessed, mood slime saves everyone. Standard stuff. Though it does lead to this rather naughty altered quote (one of my favorites from Busters II):
Victor: (talking about the mood slime after the yelling at it) We're running tests to see if we can get an equally strong positive response.
Marty: Oh yeah? Like what?
Doc: We sing to it, talk to it, say caring supportive things to it.
Marty: (snorting) You're not *sleeping* with it, are you Doc?
(Doc gives him a "are you nuts?" look, but Victor suddenly blushes -- other three stare)
Simon: (stunned) It's always the quiet ones. . . .
Victor: It's -- it was a brief experiment --
Marty: (holding up hands) Don't need details --
Victor: (full-on babbling) A-Alice likes to e-experiment once in a while --
Simon: (throwing up his hands) Oh God. . . .
Marty: (TMIed) Did we ask?!
Doc: (unable to help himself) Did you get good results?
Marty: Doc!!
Aaand I'd better end it here, since I have to hit the sheets. :p
