Christmas and Fanficcy Thoughts
Dec. 24th, 2010 11:22 pmFirst, more of "A Week of Secundus Christmas":
Day Six: Pudding
“You are late for tea!”
Victor dodged the teacup that came sailing his way. “Actually, according to my watch, we are precisely on time,” he said, although he knew it wouldn’t make any difference to March.
“Everyone else is already here!”
“We were early, March,” Marty pointed out, indicating for Alice and Victor to sit next to him and Doc.
“Then why weren’t they early as well?”
“Ferdinand didn’t want us to stop giving him attention,” Alice explained, sitting down. “It’s amazing how affectionate an oversized butterfly can be.”
“It’s my own fault for deciding that he should be like my old dog Scraps when it came time to advance his nervous system,” Victor said, eyeing the Christmas pudding directly in front of his plate. “So, are we serving ourselves, or--”
“None for you,” March said, pulling the pudding out of his reach. “You were late. You can whatever else you want, but no pudding.”
“What? We were on time!” Victor protested, standing up again to try and grab the pudding.
“No! Naughty!” the March Hare said, pulling the pudding close to himself. “Our pudding. Not yours.”
“March, are you seriously trying to deny Victor food?” Alice said, looking amused.
There was a pause. “One can try, can’t they?” March said after a moment, grabbing his spoon and pointing it at Victor.
Victor glowered at him. “March, either you give me a slice or I give you a pair of antennae.”
“Really? Actually, that sounds like it would be really neat! Would I be able to communicate with ants?”
“. . .I keep forgetting I can’t use threats like that on you. Fine then – keep the pudding. I’ll eat all the squimberry tarts instead.”
Moments later, Victor expertly caught the pudding as it was launched at him. “I knew you’d see reason,” he said, as the March Hare pulled a face at him. “Shall we set it ablaze, or just eat?”
-TTV: . . . I'm really not this obsessive about food.-
I know, but it makes for a funnier fic if he is. Anyway, the spark for this one was a "holiday special" drabble prompt over at
charloft. Since I already had the "Week of Secundus Christmas" idea, I just summarized that. However, when I wrote it, I realized I had some gaps, so to speak. I had to think hard for a minute to fill in the last two days -- for this one, I recalled a Tim Burton's Alice fic where Alice baked a Christmas pudding. It seems to be an English tradition, so I threw it in there. I decided to set this one at the tea table because "Secundus" itself isn't lending itself to tea parties at the moment, and I like writing for the March Hare. That was followed by the idea of Victor threatening to give someone antennae, and the rest just followed from there.
Some notes: I believe I've mentioned Ferdinand here before, but I'll mention him again -- he's the riding butterfly Victor makes after the events at the end of "Secundus." As Victor mentions, he's a butterfly who acts rather like an affection puppy -- more than one visitor has had Ferdy's proboscis probe their pockets, looking for sugar. The spoon thing of March's and the squimberry tarts are of course from Tim Burton's AiW -- I happen to like both. As for Victor's threat, everybody knows he doesn't mean it and would never seriously do anything to his friends. Victor's actually fairly stable for a Severely Touched.
-TD: No -- craziness at all?-
It's mostly the "fun happy gonna change the world" craziness. You only get dangerous!Victor if you threaten his friends. And GOD HELP YOU if you try to hurt Alice.
-M: Shouldn't that be the other way around? Alice threatening anybody who tries to hurt him?-
Oh, it works that way too. They -- kind of keep each other in check.
-OD: *tentacles whisper to him* *slow horrible realization* What -- what happens if you get both of them mad at you?-
. . .Just don't.
-TTV: Please stop making me out to be terrifying.-
-M2: Well, you are a little scary when you get honest-to-God angry. And you're normal.-
-TTV: . . .The man in the threesome with a living and a dead girl is normal now?-
-M2: According to the time traveler whose best friend is a vampire, yes.-
Our lives are fucked up, aren't they?
Anyway, worked some more on "Secundus" today, but I have a spark of an idea for a Telltale BTTF Drabbles88. Mostly based around one certain scene late in the game. I've got basically the ending down, it's just a matter of finding the right beginning and prompt.
-VD2: We're all up for a new Drabbles88. The last one you wrote was for the card game, right?-
Yeah, I think so. I need to do a Ride one too, if I haven't already. Then I'll have all the "official" universes.
-DW: Beg pardon?-
Well, it seems to me we have a couple of distinct "official" BTTF-verses:
--->The Movies (aka canon)
--->The Ride (Doc comes back, founds Institute of Future Technology)
--->The Animated Series (Doc comes back, there are many rather poorly conceived adventures)
--->The Card Game (Where everybody's kids and timelines collide in the far future)
--->The Telltale Game (Doc hasn't come back, but the DeLorean has)
No, I'm not counting the other video games. They're a) adaptations of the actual movies, and b) sucky except for the Japanese one (and even that has its moments).
-VD: Hmmm, interesting. So there's at least five versions of me -- one canonical, four semi-canonical.-
Yup. AU is alive and well in the BTTF fandom, and I intend to take advantage of it. :p
As for other news,
clockwork_doc,
museicalmarty,
deadgirlsliekme, and
save_us_alice all posted with various presents they're giving some of their Nexus friends and each other. I saw one of Victor and Alice's friends do something like that and felt I should too. And there's a
ink_sec_sims update too, on the Leeches. No problems with Sims, thank God. :)
And now -- I dunno. I already watched "A Blackadder Christmas," so maybe I'll watch that video someone made of the Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas characters doing "The 12 Pains of Christmas."
