Two Things

crossover_chickRPing went rather quiet today (not that I mind too much, it was rather busy yesterday), so I have two main things on my mind. Allow me to natter on to you about them.
Item the First: I've finished Soul Music. Again, great book. It took me a bit to warm up to Susan, but I think I'll look forward to seeing her again. Imp/Buddy and The Band and the Music were fantastic. I seriously felt swept away by the emotion at times. And the Wizards -- oh, the Wizards were HILARIOUS. I think it's official -- the Unseen University staff is my favorite group on the Disc. XD
I kind of want to discuss the role of the Music in the book, but that might be getting too spoilery, so I'll settle for saying I could never see it as evil. (Then again, maybe I just like it our version of it way too much.) Instead, I'll focus on this bit of awesome I learned from TV Tropes. Imp's name, Imp y Celyn, translates to "Bud of the Holly." After The Band starts to hit it big, he starts going by Buddy. I'm sure you can make the rest of the connection. BUT -- he also has a song, that he plays on both the harp (where it's a sweet masterpiece) and on his guitar (where it SWINGS). The song is called "Sioni Bod Da." "Bod Da" is apparently Welsh for "be good." And TV Tropes has the full English name as -- Johnny B. Goode.
BUDDY'S BIG ROCK NUMBER NEAR THE END WAS JOHNNY B. GOODE.
If you don't understand why that is one of the most awesome things ever for me (ranking up there with the awesome lightning strike Victor Tugelbend managed to summon in Moving Pictures), you obviously have no idea how big a BTTF fan I am. *squee*
And tomorrow, I start Interesting Times! RINCEWIND!

Item the Second: The third teaser trailer for Alice: Madness Returns has been released.
. . .Of the three, I've only liked ONE. And this one? Isn't that one.
Okay, first off, what the FUCK is going on with the dress? What's with pink ribbons trailing off the sleeves and the black CHOKER and the boots the color of a bad poo? What the hell happened to her perfectly serviceable blue dress and apron? Okay, yes, that had a skull in the back for the bow, and those weird symbols on her pockets, but that was it! Alice looks like an anime character gone bad in this trailer!
As for character designs -- Alice gets a pass, I'm slowly getting used to that face. But that is NOT Caterpillar, and that is DEFINITELY NOT the Mad Hatter! What the hell happened to their faces? I don't believe this -- I actually prefer the OLD character models! Those looked RIGHT, even with their crappy animation! I'm just hoping they look different in-game. And honestly, the Wonderland you see at the beginning? I don't like it. It's too -- candy-coated. Yeah, I know, weird way to describe Wonderland, but it doesn't LOOK right. I liked the version we saw at the end of the original game -- that was actually rather pretty. This -- this looks like they're trying too hard.
You know what my problem is with this trailer? I find so much of it to be UGLY. It's just not pleasant to look at for me. And I don't get the feeling this is -- Alice. OUR Alice. I'll give them the new logo at the end looks nice, but -- it's just not doing it for me.
So yes, to recap my reactions to the trailers:
Teaser 1: . . . Interesting beginning, but was the blood and teeth vomit REALLY necessary?
Teaser 2: Now THIS is cool! This is like the trailer for the first one.
Teaser 3: . . .Why is everything ugly? What the fuck is with the dress? (Yes, I'm sorry, I'm fixating on the dress. It's STUPID. Her original design worked JUST FRIGGING FINE. And we're not even talking about the weird costume change she now has in Queensland, according to the latest screenshots.)
I dunno. I know it's only a trailer, and the game could be a thing of magnificent beauty. But my hopes have gone down a lot from seeing this.
