12 Days of Christmas: Day Eleven
Dec. 23rd, 2011 11:58 pmInching closer and closer. . .here's your Day 11 fic:
The front door flew open, and four figures darted inside. “You weren’t out there for very long,” Alice noted as her children took off their coats, hats, and scarves.
“It’s too cold out!” Chester said, giving an exaggerated shiver to prove his point. “Everything’s all ice – even the snow’s too hard to gather up.”
“We’re were in danger of becoming snowmen!” Lorina said, flinging her arms open dramatically. “Well – snowpeople. Are there snowwomen?”
Alice laughed. “I’m sure there are – you just don’t see them as often. Well, here, let’s get you all warmed up.” She led them into the sitting room, where they promptly clustered around the fire. “Shall I get us some hot chocolate?”
“Yes please,” the four chorused, warming their hands on the flames.
“We’re having hot chocolate?” Victor asked, coming up behind his wife.
Alice smirked at him. “Trust you to appear once sweets of any kind are mentioned,” she teased him. “But yes, we are. The children nearly froze to death outside, and we need to warm them up.”
“Is it that cold out?”
“Oh yes,” Lucy nodded. “If we’d stayed out any longer, we would have turned into blocks of ice.”
“This is the coldest Christmas ever,” Vincent agreed.
“It certainly has been quite chilly lately,” Victor said. “All right, warm yourselves up by the fire. Mother and I will get everyone hot chocolate, and maybe afterwards we’ll sing a few carols, all right?”
“Okay, Dad,” Chester said. “Thank you.” Lucy, Vincent, and Lorina added their own thanks, scooting closer to the fire.
Alice looked curiously up at Victor as they went to fetch the hot chocolate. “Do you really think it’s the coldest Christmas ever?”
“Maybe,” Victor shrugged. “But it can be as cold as it wishes – I know we’re going to have a lovely holiday regardless.”
-D: Letting the Travelers Verse out again, I see.-
Yup. This is just some Victor/Alice family-themed fluff. I was inspired by an old "Calvin and Hobbes" Sunday strip where Calvin is forced to come indoors thanks to an ultra-cold, snowy day, and his mother gives him some hot chocolate and sits him by the fire to warm up. I liked the idea of the Van Dort kids doing the same.
-M: Question -- why don't they just travel to a warm universe to beat the cold?-
Oh, technically they do that at night. Wonderland only gets cold when Alice wants it to (apart from the designated ice world Tundraful). They could probably slip off to another world to warm up if they really felt the need, but so far fires and hot chocolate are keeping them set. Besides, I suspect at least Victor's the type who doesn't feel like it's really Christmas without snow.
-J: Hey, fair enough -- I like seeing a little of the white stuff around Christmas.-
I sort of do, but then I remember the snowstorm I got on my birthday afterwards one year. . .
Anyway, just some fluffy goodness for you today.
In other news, three things of note:
-->Inkwell Christmas Party! I've reenabled the custom comment style for the Inkwell, so we shouldn't have any problems with the comments.
-->
8butterflyboy8 has been moved from Chapter 5ish to post-Chapter 6 in his "canon point," mostly because I've been playing him as knowing Victoria, Emily, and Sir Christopher for a while now. *shrug* Probably a minor thing to all of you, but I figured I'd mention it.
-->Emmett Victor Liddell of La Fiesta Tech is finally out in the "real world!" Let's have the wrap-up of his final days at his house:

EVL finishes his MunchieBot! He's getting quite good at this Robotery business, even though I wasn't able to get him a gold badge.

The major development of this time period was him going up a point in magic skill! Result? The teleport!

Which doesn't always work, but what can you do.

EVL's attempt at digging up more treasure leads to a busted water main. He seems pretty casual about all the water spraying up.

But perhaps that's because he's learned Aqua Deletus. I love magic.

Tending to the evil tomato plants. Why are they evil? I got them all the way up to "Thriving," and never got any goddamn tomatoes for my efforts. *grumble*

EVL blogs about Tinkering, creates some more robots, and even maxes out his Mechanical as I try to get him maximum enthusiasm in Tinkering. No dice. :(

And it wasn't easy, either, given that his last day was basically MASCOT HELL. I'm serious -- the streaker only showed up once, but the llama and the cow kept coming back!

HE IS TRYING TO MAKE FRIENDS WITH SOMEONE GO AWAY (someone being Gerard, a Sim he met on that all-boys outing from before. Not pals yet, but close.)

And these kept happening. Sigh.

EVL chooses to ignore the fighting in favor of magical studies.

A last treasure hunt yields this toucan statue -- another 180 simoleons, not that it matters.

And then, at midnight. . . .

Congratulations! You look exactly the same thanks to your wizard robes!

But hey, you've got the right to look smug. You grew up well, and you're ready to take on the world.
So yeah, the next time you see EVL, he'll be in Steampunk Gulch! Look for him in the New Year!
And now, I've got tumblr and tags -- later!
