I found this out from VictorPlush's twitter friends -- Someone's doing a review of the BTTF novelization! First one only, I think, because it's the one that's most clearly based off an earlier draft. I'm rather looking forward to this. I kind of like the novelization (particularly how Gipe wrote George), but I suspect there's a lot of hilarity to be had from it too.

Also, was Gipe really stung to death by bees? *insert Eddie Izzard "covered in bees" joke here*

I'd be interested in reading it! I've only seen the first two Back to the Future movies so far (I'll watch the third one tomorrow) and they're very good. I can understand why you love them so much. Each movie has me on the edge of my seat with suspense. You know that things will work out in the end but it's still so intense. The plots and the whole idea of time travel are very interesting. I can't wait until I get a chance to see the third one. It's going to be amazing! I have no doubt that the novelizations will be just as awesome as the movies. :)

Yay! I'm glad you're liking them. :D They really are good movies, aren't they? I've liked them for ages. :)

As for the novelizations -- they're okay, but the first one's rather weird. George Gipe was working with an earlier version of the script than normal, so Doc and Marty are a little off-kilter. (Marty's not even in the right clothes, for starters -- he's in an old costume design.) But hey, it's still a fun read.

They are! My mom also liked them a lot when she was younger. :)

Oh, so the first one is based on the earlier draft of the movie script? Hm, it's always interesting to read the first draft of a movie script since they're always so different from the movies we know and see now (as would a novel based on that). I've read the original script for the animated film, Anastasia and it is a bit different from the actual movie. The Dowager Empress (the grandmother) is actually named Tatiana (instead of Maria/Marie, her real name- I honestly have no idea why they decided to change it to Tatiana) and it actually opens with her looking at an old photo album. Journey to the Past is a completely different song and there's other songs that weren't even in the movie. It's okay, I guess. I'm just so used to what we see in the movie but hey, we would have gotten to see more of Anastasia's siblings in the opening sequence if that counts for anything (in the photo album and they were written to have entered the room one by one).
Back on topic, is there anywhere I can read the earlier version of the first BTTF script? I'm very curious to compare it to the actual movie.

Cool :D

Yeah, I know -- very, very weird. That's pretty neat about Anastasia -- it's always kind of neat to see the development process. As for an early version of the first BTTF script. . . I'm not sure if there's anyplace, but you can get some good synopses of the various scripts on this site (http://www.kristensheley.com/bttf/future.html). BTTF the first in fact went through a LOT of changes -- the time machine was originally a converted fridge, for one.

I wonder if there is an earlier draft for Corpse Bride somewhere on the internet. I looked it up and I can't seem to find one (just the movie we know and see). I remember reading in The Invitation to the Wedding book that the script was written several times but Tim Burton thought that one leaned towards Victoria more and the other leaned towards Emily more so the final result had to have a balance between the two.
Wow, it was very interesting to see the development progress and it did go through a lot of changes. The fourth one which the novel will be based on isn't as different from the actual movie as the first draft is but I can still see some differences. The time machine being a fridge thing made me giggle, I don't know why. XD

Oh man, I'd love to see an earlier script. I remember seeing somewhere that John August, one of the guys who worked on the script, said that Barkis was actually a late addition! What the hell was the story like before he showed up? (Frankly, I would have liked some sort of commentary on the movie too -- information, Tim! You're starving us!)

Yeah -- I've always thought the Bobs were good rewriters. :p Early script drafts are so weird.

If there's a script where Victoria gets more screentime, I will personally beg Tim Burton to do an extended cut and just add those scenes in. Or they could do a Broadway musical where we get to see more of Victoria's side of the story. Perhaps it could begin with Emily right before her murder at the beginning singing the opening number about her dreams of being a bride and in the second part of the Prologue, we get to see Victor and Victoria hear the news about the arranged marriage and their feelings about it. THEN (a month later), comes According to Plan. Maybe they could spend more time getting to know each other since I felt that even though they are VERY compatible, their relationship needed a bit more time and explanation instead of just a little less than five minutes and BOOM! They're madly in love. To have the balance that Tim Burton was talking about, he'd have to spend an equal amount of time with Emily and that would work since musicals are fairly longer than the average movie.

Yes, don't get me wrong, the writing is great (same goes for the earlier draft of Anastasia)- it's just so different from what I'm used to seeing.

I'd just like to know how long they intended to make the movie. More interaction between Victor and Victoria would have been nice -- I get that they were probably going for a "love at first sight" feel, but it's always nice to have more to back that up with. Too bad Maudeline came in when she did, they might have gotten at least more conversation. :p Who knows -- I'd just like to see more "behind the scenes" stuff.

Oh yeah. Early scripts, wherever you can find them, are always weird.

Yes, I understand how the love at first sight thing goes but I wish they could have at least had more conversation about the things they shared in common or more moments together. I was watching Corpse Bride in Tinychat earlier today with a dear friend of mine who hasn't seen it and we were both so angry when Maudeline came in and ruined the moment. XD

I'm not sure if you have the Corpse Bride: Invitation to the Wedding book, but it explains a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff in it. :)

LOL, I see -- damn you, Maudeline. XD And yeah, I know what you're saying. Oh, the trouble of having such a short movie to work with.

I do indeed -- it's a good read. But, in the tradition of every Disney Princess, I want more~

Yes, I truly do wish it was longer or there's a musical adaptation that's much longer than the movie. I am also a Disney Princess who wishes for more.

*runs into a field and breaks into song* I want more things relating to my fandom! I want them more than I can teeell~! And for once it might be grand, to have the crew just understand we want so much more than they had planned.

LOL, yes, exactly. XD Maybe we can hold out hope for a special edition or something.

A special edition DVD would make me so happy (as would it getting re-released in theaters in 3D which is very unlikely but hey, a girl can dream).

Me too (hell, forget the 3-D, I just want a rerelease).

Yeah, I could care less about the 3D. Just get it re-released in theaters already!

I would take you, Kim, and all the other Corpse Bride fans I know to the theater on opening night and we'd all be dressed up like CB characters. I'd probably dress up as Victoria and possibly hold up a sign that says "I've got a sharp fire poker that I'm not afraid to use". XD

LOL. Sounds fun. XD I'd probably insist on dressing up as a female version of Victor. Because I'm weird like that.

LOL, I love your choice of icon ("NOOO! ANYTHING BUT THE FANGIRLS!") on a more off-topic note. It isn't weird at all and you would ROCK a Victor cosplay. You could rock any kind of cosplay, for the matter. Your costumes are always so well-done (especially the Hysteria Alice and the Grim Reaper ones). :)

LOL, I know, right? I found it on Photobucket way back and just had to have it. XD And aww, thank you! Mom and were especially proud of that Grim Reaper one. That one depended all on the facepaint, and Mom more than delivered. :D

I don't really blame you for having to have it. I would have gotten it myself if I had found it in a millisecond. XD You're very welcome! You and your mom have every right to be proud. The costume (especially the facepaint aspect) was amazing! :D
