Calling Cards
Feb. 29th, 2012 10:02 pmToday's prompt in
charloft was to make a calling card for your character. These are cards that people used to carry around and present to the servants or so of the house when they went visiting. It gave the person's name and sometimes their address, and could express messages such as congratulations or condolences (based on folded corners). Basically, it was one of those upper-class fiddly social things of the Victorian era. I made ones for both Lucy and Victor, and I'm rather pleased with them:

This is Lucy's, made in Paint. I figured she'd use a funky text on hers, and I wanted something plant-related to show off her love of plants. So she got a bit of vine drawn with the -- I think it was the watercolor brush tool. . . Anyway, I don't think it came out too badly.

This is Victor's. After struggling to do something in Paint (because I really wanted something that expressed Victor's love of drawing and butterflies), salvation came via the Corpse Bride artbook and Parka81's pictures of same. This is a storyboard panel I clipped from one of her pictures and added a blue border too. I think it works quite nicely.
Of course, now I kind of want to do a calling card for Alice. Any ideas on what I could draw/use?
