crossover_chick: Doc in goggles and holding a big old plug with the words "feeling sparky..." (BTTF: feeling sparky/creative)

First off, have an update from [livejournal.com profile] ink_sec_sims -- The Van Dorts have a pleasant day Nothing too ground-breaking in this update, though Victor's slowly inching toward teenager-hood. So that's a good sign.

Secondly, how about I give you guys a real Drabbles88? Because we haven't had one of those in a while.

69. Clock
“It’s – it’s how– it’s how I--”
He couldn’t do this. God help him, he couldn’t do this. All he could think about was what Citizen Brown had said, about not needing to completely obliterate his timeline and wreck Edna’s life. . . . And then there was watching Artie so awkwardly fire Trixie, and before that the way Trixie had nearly broken down crying when he’d lied to her about Artie being dead, and the look on Emmett’s face when he’d told the guy he wasn’t from the patent office, and – and now, the way Emmett was glaring at him like he was the worst person in the world –
“I screw up lives, okay?! It’s just what I do! It’s the only damn thing I’m good at, apparently!”
Marty had no idea what had inspired him to say that out loud, but now that it was out, he couldn’t stop. “It’s not like I like doing it! I don’t like getting people fired, or tricking them into believing people are dead, or making it so some girl ends up living in a smelly apartment with just her cat for company when she’s 70-something, or – or crushing every dream you’ve ever had! But it’s the only way I can get home! To my timeline! And yeah, maybe it’s not the best for everybody but it’s home! Doesn’t anybody understand that I just want to go home?” He was crying now, he could feel it, but he couldn’t seem to stop himself. He leaned heavily against the clock face. “I want to go home. . . .”
There was a long moment of silence, in which Marty desperately tried to stop his tears. Then, suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. “I won’t pretend to understand half of what you said there, Mr. Corelone. But – it’s pretty obvious you’re having as bad a night as me,” Emmett said softly.
Marty couldn’t help himself – he turned around and hugged Emmett as hard as he could. “I’m sorry,” he choked out, wishing he was back in 1986 with his real best friend by his side again. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” Please. . .I just want to go home. . . .

-M2: Why is everything you write for the Games-Verse either really funny or really depressing?-
-VuM: Or creepy -- don't forget creepy.-
Hey, don't blame me -- blame the game designers for including a moment where you have to have Marty insult Emmett and get him pissed off at you. This is an AU of the climatic scene at the end of Episode 4, where Marty's trying to get Emmett out of his depressed funk, and the game railroads you into doing so by forcing him into being a total jackass. I thought, "what if Marty just couldn't do it?" and this resulted. After all, think about it -- the kid's been through hell recently. He's nearly been erased again, AND he's just escaped a timeline where his best friend became a dictator under the thumb of his maniacal wife. And he's gotten almost no sleep. It was pretty inevitable he'd have some sort of breakdown.

I know, I know, but without putting you through hell there'd be no plot. Anyway, I entertained ideas of expanding this into a longer story, where Marty spills the beans on everything, but I could never get past this end-point. The basic idea was rewriting Episode 5 so Emmett knew about time travel and he and Marty teamed up to stop Citizen Brown and Edna. I just couldn't figure out quite how to do that. So it remains a Drabbles88. I hope it's enjoyable in its current form, at least.

Ah, feels good to get something else up. And I'm doing very well with "Secundus" as of late too -- we're almost to the part where Victor goes mad. Climax, here we come! But first, tumblr. Later!

I promise I'll throw AL at Simon's party as soon as I can. My mom's coming home from her vacation (my sister took her on a cruise) tomorrow and I need to make sure she doesn't come home to a pigsty today since we're gonna be at Ed's mom's tomorrow. And today I want to take the baby up to the mall and try (<-- operative word) to get an Easter picture taken.

Great work. I agree that Marty has very little sleep in the Game (he should be exhausted by the start of Episode 2, and yet he manages to live through that and spend an entire day in Citizen Brown's 1986) although he should be in a better position at this point (after all, Marty gets to sleep in the Citizen Plus Ward, and he awakens naturally, so he's only got more or less a 'normal' day behind him at this point). But yeah, I agree that the stress and some left-over exhaustion might cause such an outburst. Too bad you won't expand on it, though - the premise of Emmett knowing about time travel is very interesting (although it has the potential to mess up the future on an enormous scale).
