As in, we keep having itty-bitty thunderstorms blowing over. Bleh. *pokes them* We're also expected to get some on the 4th -- Nature's fireworks, I suppose.

Not too much else to report on -- Mom and I got Dad's birthday present this morning. To save money we're doing e-cards instead of paper ones. We also watched an MST3K together, Night of the Blood Beast. Weirdly enough, although it was a 7th-season episode I hadn't seen before, turns out I'd seen large chunks of it. The short before the main feature was one I'd watched dozens of times on my old "Shorts" tape, and I'd seen a lot of the best moments from the episode on one of those "best of" compilations on YouTube. The movie itself was one of those schlocky 50s snorefests. Though it was pretty interesting to see a glimpse of pre-SciFi-era Pearl Forrester.

Now then, who wants an Alice Cardbridge memory:

“Finally!”
Alice glared at the door as it slid closed behind her. She was going to have to have a serious talk with whoever had designed it. She’d had to try three times to slip through. Cardbridge was a beautiful place, and she was glad to visit, but that was no excuse for having a door that closed almost too quickly for anyone to get through it!
Well, there was no use getting angry with a door. She’d made it to the second card castle, and now it was time to see what lurked inside. There was some teeth, more of those paper balloons, and – a memory! She tore through the cartons to get to the glittering butterfly. What did Victor have to say here in the land of flying cards?
“Flying’s always been one of my great dreams. Being able to go from place to place as I please, high up in the air, no cares, no worries. . . Heh, y-you must think me a bit silly.”
She smiled. Oh yes – she remembered that day. They’d been trying to find some greenery in the East End, and had stumbled across a patch of land that might have once passed for a little park. The sight of some birds flying overhead had prompted that comment from Victor. She’d told him he wasn’t silly at all, that she’d always wanted to fly too. They’d talked about where they’d go if they could just fly away like birds, the sights they’d see, the people they’d meet. . .it had been one of the nicest days she’d ever had.
She stepped through the back doorway and onto the card that flew in to meet her feet. She stopped and lingered for a bit, watching the cards flying around the brilliant blue sky. She looked down at the drop below her, but didn’t feel the slightest twinge of fear. Instead, she felt merely a surge of excitement at being so high up. “You would love it here, wouldn’t you?” she whispered. “There’s no way you couldn’t feel free.” She imagined sitting there with him, legs dangling over the side, watching the cards and feeling like nothing in the world could ever bother them again. . . .
But she couldn’t bring Victor here, and Queensland awaited. She sighed, then indulged herself for just a moment more with a jump, a twirl, and a slow float back down. I’ll tell him all about it once I finish my business here, she promised herself, heading along the path the cards built for her. Every last detail. Right after I apologize for not believing him about his adventures.

Why yes, that first part is just me having a bitch about the one part of Cardbridge I hate! Stupid door puzzle. . . Anyway, the rest of it is just some nice fluff about how I'm sure Victor would consider Cardbridge one of his favorite places in Wonderland. It's certainly one of mine. I think I was inspired a bit by a fanfic that had Alice thinking that Lizzie would have loved it there -- and I bet she would have. I mean -- CARDBRIDGE.
-TTV: All right, I have to ask -- AREN'T YOU AFRAID OF HEIGHTS?-
Yes. It is my curse. I think as long as I was safely in one of the card castles I'd be okay. My fear of heights is weird and wobbly like that.
Anyway, hope you enjoy -- the next bit is the one where her feelings finally go "PAY ATTENTION TO US."
