Scott Pilgrim Musings: Exes and Sins
Aug. 9th, 2012 04:36 pmOkay, so yesterday I announced my intention to do a crossover table featuring the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Heavenly Virtues. And one of the fandoms represented is "Scott Pilgrim Vs The World" (in the form of "Victor Van Dort Vs The World"). Today, this has led to me pondering:
Can you fit Ramona's Seven Deadly Exes to the Seven Deadly Sins?
Now, one match-up is obvious, to me at least -- Gideon Graves = Pride. I mean, the guy's a stuck-up jerk who openly says he's better than Scott. "I'm what's cool, I'm what's happening, I'm blowing up right now!" Sounds pretty prideful to me. But what about the others?
Well -- as tempting as it is for Todd Ingram to be Envy (because of who he's dating), I think Todd = Gluttony. After all, his special powers come from a strict diet (veganism), and he loses those special powers because he can't help indulging. (Scott only provides Todd with his third strike -- the guy had eaten CHICKEN PARMESAN before that.) So yeah, definitely Gluttony.
As for Envy, I think you need to match that up to one of the Katayanagi twins. After all, when Scott goes up against them, he's harboring a MAJOR case of jealousy from seeing Gideon with Ramona. Hell, the band creates a LITERAL green-eyed monster to battle the Katayanagi dragons! I think you could also throw Greed in there, as Scott is being greedy in wanting Ramona all to himself. It's the whole "she's mine" attitude.
Roxy Richter is a toss-up between Wrath and Lust. She's a very angry person, and she's defeated by touching a "hot spot" on her knee that gets her way turned on (to the point of explosion. Yeah). I think I'm going for Lust because the whole "lesbianism is hot" thing is kind of played up with her. Specifically Scott's comment about Ramona having a "sexy phase" when he learns of her dating Roxy. So yeah, Roxy = Lust.
That leaves Matthew Patel and Lucas Lee to match up to Sloth and Wrath. Thinking about it, I'd give Wrath to Matthew. He seems quite genuinely pissed off about Scott not taking the fight seriously, and about how Ramona rejected him. Lucas gets Sloth because of the scene with the stunt doubles. What's more slothful than not fighting your own battles? So, final sum-up:
Matthew Patel = Wrath
Lucas Lee = Sloth
Todd Ingram = Gluttony
Roxy Richter = Lust
Ken & Kyle Katayanagi = Envy & Greed
Gideon Graves = Pride
Nice! Okay, I'm done rambling about stuff nobody cares about but me.
