crossover_chick: Doc in goggles and holding a big old plug with the words "feeling sparky..." (BTTF: feeling sparky/creative)

And we miss alliteration by a day. Ah well.

Anyway, thanks to a kind invite from [livejournal.com profile] slackerspice, I'm a part of Archive of Our Own! I'm now Crossover_Chick there. Dunno if I'll be making separate names for various fandoms or what. I've uploaded 3 of my old devART stories there if you want to check them out.

And to make this day truly fanficcy, let's have another Sin! We're up to Sloth and the first of the paired Sins & Virtues that are also both from the same fandom:

Portal 2
“No! No, come back online! P-please!”
It was no use. Victor slumped back from the console, letting himself dangle from his management rail. Thousands of red lights stared back at him accusingly. He shut his eyes, but he could still see them through the lids. Watching him. Judging him. “It – it wasn’t my fault,” he whispered, trying to stave off the guilt that was crawling into his body. “It wasn’t. . . .”
Even as he said it, he knew it wasn’t entirely true. Victor had had lots of time to get to know himself as he roamed the empty halls of Aperture Science Laboratories. Keeping himself company was the only thing he could do to keep from going mad. And one of the things he’d learned was that he didn’t deal with adversity well. Specifically, he liked to run away from it. Problems always seemed too big to deal with on his own. Whenever something went wrong, his first instinct was to get as far away from the area as possible. Let someone else deal with it. He wasn’t the troubleshooter around here, no. It did not help in the least that he was also so easily startled. A sudden loud noise could send him nearly leaping off his rail (thank God the connection was so firm – he did not feeling like dying just because he’d been scared by the sound of a panel falling). And when he was scared, the urge to run got even stronger. So that’s how he’d been handling pretty much every problem in the Relaxation Center lately – running away and hoping it would fix itself. Not the best plan overall, he had to admit.
Still, he felt he could put at least a fraction of the blame on the Center itself. After all, it had a large alarm to tell him if there been a catastrophic power failure. An alarm that probably would have scared the life out of him, admittedly, but it would have at least let him know something was seriously wrong. Given him a chance to fix things before –
Before all the lights turned red.
He opened his eyes and stared at the console. All those test subjects – either dead or close enough to. The guilt twisted its way through his mechanical guts and up his spine. Why hadn’t he stayed here? Why hadn’t he tried to help? Why –
Wait.
His eyes went wide. One of the lights – one of the lights was green.
His heart rising, he searched the panel. There were more! Not many, not many at all, but scattered here and there were a few green lights! Some of the relaxation annexes had kept power! Some of the subjects were still alive! He wasn’t a total failure! “Oh thank God,” he whispered in a shaky voice.
Still – what did he do now? He still had thousands upon thousands of dead bodies in here. That was a problem. A problem that really was too big for him to face alone. Nobody could honestly expect him to deal with this. He shook his head. “I have to get out of here.” He looked back at the green lights. “We have to get out of here,” he corrected himself.

-M: Victor as Wheatley? I know you love that sphere, but -- considering his function, isn't that kind of an insult?-
I know, I know, but the temptation proved too much. Anyway, this is Victor and Alice in the Portal verse -- specifically, anything involving "Portal 2," since, you know, Victor is Wheatley. This all really came about when I realized just how easily Alice and the Queen of Hearts could fill in for Chell and GLaDOS respectively. I bet Alice would test abnormally high on tenaciousness too. After that, it all came together. This universe is pretty much like the original Portal 2, except for the obvious character replacements and 2 other things:
1) The cores being androids. I know it doesn't make all that much sense given their function, but -- well, it's Aperture Science, where portals are shower curtains and lemons explode. Besides, Victor as a round little "eye" doesn't really work as well, does it?
2) The corruption is mostly the fault of the chassis. I'm with at least one other person that says the chassis helps amplify everything awful about you in the rush of power, and I believe that's what happened to Wheatley. Victor, however, is a lot more good-natured and sweet, so I'd have to put more blame on the chassis for him going power-mad in this universe. (My idea of the ending in this universe has him NOT telling Alice to let go.)
-TTV: Can't stand to see me evil?-
Certainly not to Alice. Fortunately, these stories don't even get that far -- the companion to this, "Fortitude," is set during the second escape attempt bit. This one's basically me setting things up -- and, to be honest, this is sort of how I pictured it working out for Wheatley as well. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the Relaxation Center power failure -- if only because he's CLEARLY out of his element in that job. I mean, putting what you yourselves have dubbed the "Intelligence Dampening Core" in charge of a huge annex full of people? That's fail. And that's Aperture.

Hope you enjoyed that! I've got some stuff to wrap up now before bed.
