25 Days of Multiverse #15

It has been a most lazy Sunday -- with the weather outside being very very slushy and me wanting to finish off Helloween4545's "Metro 2033" LP. Good stuff -- and I will be forever amused that he kind of stumbled into the good ending, only to get annoyed when the sequel turned out to go from the bad one. XD Anyway, this means I don't have a lot to say about the day (I genuinely did spend it almost entirely watching the remaining videos of the LP), so let me just post this latest drabble up before dinner, then we can get to the RPing.
Day Fifteen:
“It’s Turnsend today, you know.”
Victor lifted his face from his sketch. “Really?” he said, blinking.
“Yes,” Alice replied, smirking at his expression. “We’ve been invited to the Gather. They said there’ll be plenty of–” She ticked them off on her fingers. “– feasting, music, people, and – most importantly – drink.”
“Ah. And how many of those do you actually like?”
“Two, and at least one I can get here whenever you favor me with a song.”
“I’m of the same mind,” Victor nodded, lips quirked upward. “Why don’t we have our own Gather right here?”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
Yes, because this is what I need to do -- come up with a "Victor and Alice living on Pern" AU when I've still yet to read a Pern book. *shakes head at self* But the idea intrigued me, and I figured, what with all the fanfic for the series I've read and research I've done online, I could fake it for 100 words. On Pern, Victor's the son of a successful fisherman and his wife at a sea hold, while Alice was the younger daughter of a Master Harper -- Harpers being the equivalent of teachers on Pern, as well as musicians. They were both Searched to become potential dragonriders, but actually turned down the opportunity. Why?
-->Victor cannot handle going between. You see, between happens to be completely dark, completely airless, and completely free of sensation. His first and only time experiencing it, he exited in full panic attack mode because it hit upon his greatest fear. Since dragonriders have to teleport, that automatically rules him out.
-->Alice cannot handle the idea of "the dragon decides, the rider complies." She hates the idea of forced sex, and even though she knows it's not really the dragon's fault -- yeah. She just can't.
So instead of joining the Rider ranks, they sort of become this biologist pair for the Weyr they live at, studying the local flora and fauna. Victor's a trundlebug enthusiast in this world, since as far as I know Pern doesn't have butterflies. And yes, they do have their fire lizards. I can't have a Victor in this world without his Moonlight. :) "Turnsend" is the Pern equivalent of the New Year -- it's the closest thing they have to a major holiday, I think; they certainly don't have Christmas -- and a "Gather" is their name for a big Weyr/Hold/Hall-wide party. As usual, Victor and Alice prove not to be the most social of people. XD Ah well, they're happiest with just each other, their lizards, and the sounds of Pern around them.
Hope you enjoy that -- time for me to eat!
