Clean-Up Friday
Aug. 24th, 2018 11:41 pmNot at home, but at work -- since I finished editing my spreadsheet file for the letters that are coming out later, and only had one other thing I had to do (a pledge report for someone in Fiscal), I spent the majority of my time cleaning my desk and organizing/ditching papers. Shredded a whole bunch of stuff I didn't need anymore -- felt good to reduce the piles that had been forming. Now we just wait and see what's going to happen on Monday once the new system goes live. . .
But I'm not going to worry about that this weekend. It was a very nice day -- summer warmth with low humidity. I will definitely take it. :) Got home in decent time and, after some bumming about on TV Tropes, did my writing. Which was, indeed, finishing off Chapter 5 of "Fixing You!" The gang is past the whole angry mob bit, but now they have to go in and face tea with Victor's parents. . . Which is now Chapter 6, as I have indeed split the original big chapter. I'm not opposed to having huge chapters in my stories, but this one had a natural break point, so. . . Get started on that one on Sunday.
After writing, it was time to fire up BioShock Infinite for the first time! It's already pretty amazing. :D Had to turn the graphics up (they start out automatically on the lowest setting), but once I did -- well, I am in floating city steampunk HEAVEN right now. There is so much cool stuff to see! And to loot :p I'm taking the most circuitous route possible to my goal just so I can look at all the cool scenery and steal everyone's silver eagles. :p And the Columbia carnival they've got going on is pretty awesome -- I mean, I know the city is secretly kind of crapsack (there is a darkly hilarious advert for KID-SPECIFIC cigarettes you can see while wandering about, and the religious mania and racism is on full display), but the mini-games you can play to test out the shooting mechanics and vigors are pretty cool! I bet you could have a lot of fun just sticking around there for a while. And I like all of Booker's little asides -- it's weird to have a BioShock protag who TALKS, but he makes it work. In fact, currently I have only one major gripe with the game -- and that is it's on an autosave system, like Alice: Madness Returns. The player can't save at all. This is a BIG change from the previous two entries, and I don't approve because that means I can't just put down the game whenever I want -- I HAVE to be sure I'm near a checkpoint. *grumbles* Seriously, designers, just let people save themselves. We'll all be happier that way.
After that was my walk, and after that, videos! We had:
-->A "Fun With Shorts" about another episode of that weird "Lone Ranger" cartoon. This time it was a largely solo adventure with Tonto bringing down a supposed "Sun God" who was terrorizing one of the local tribes of Native Americans. As you might imagine, it was fairly racist and stupid -- perfect for Josh's quips.
-->The next episode in Helloween's Vampyr LP -- Reid is investigating Nurse Crane's dealings in Whitechapel. Seems she's been giving out free medical services, which is being met with various levels of approval from the populace. Reid's also killed a bunch of vampire hunters, Skals (which appear to be like ghouls), and vampions (those werewolf-like things), cured a kid of fatigue, discovered some family drama going on in the East End, and unlocked a new safe house. Helloween also TRIED to get an awesome new skill to show off, but didn't level up the good doctor QUITE enough. Shame. Ah well, always next time!
-->A couple of OXBox lists, including cheaty bosses (you know, those ones who will just ignore your attacks, lure you into an insta-kill, or just make you chose who in your current party dies), and heroes who got suddenly very incompetent during cutscenes (like Lara Croft wiping out at the end of a buggy escape, or Agent 47 somehow fucking up a stealthy takedown enough to be knocked out himself, aka going full Mike).
-->And a Kubz Scouts video on the latest Yandere Simulator update -- new clubs, new characters, and the chance to make over the president of the gaming club into the guy all the girls want. Still can't use the DDR machine, though.
And after that it's been largely the usual hanging around and updating my RP queue over on Valice Multiverse (very quiet night over there). Still need to clear out my inbox, and get the other half of my Saturday VictorLuvsAlice posts queued, so I'd best get on that. We'll see what tomorrow brings -- night all!
