Happy Victoria Day!
May. 24th, 2021 11:12 pmYes, because that's part of the reason I took this day off. Day named after me! -- in Canada, at least. XD I had a reasonably nice day -- much cooler and drier today weather-wise, which was nice. And I actually got a full night's sleep WITHOUT waking up extra-early for no good reason. I don't know if that was from going to bed a bit earlier (closer to 1:30 AM than 2 AM), it being a cooler night, or just that I was tired enough to properly zonk out for a change, but -- hell, I'll take it. Insomnia is a bitch and I would not recommend.
Anyway, got up around 10 AM, made myself a nice parfait for breakfast, fooled around on the iPad for a bit, then got to work on to-do list stuff:
1. Edit some more on “Londerland Bloodlines”: Check! Got through Alice taking on the “Thinned Blood” quest for the group (to E’s happy surprise), and Alice giving Rosa a twenty in exchange for asking some questions. She’s got a rough idea of what to look out for in the future now – including the knowledge that she has lots of enemies, but more friends than the actual fledgling (mostly because she’s going to have a ghoul who truly loves her, not to mention VV and Bertram Tung being friendlier to her than they might be to the average fledgling). Now, though, it’s time to peek on the Slasher’s handiwork before heading back to town to see about finding medicine for Mercurio. . .
Also, bonus – last night, before heading to bed, I did some more timeline stuff for the hypnokink verse, and came up with a good idea for how magic works in it that’s very distinct from Forgotten Vows (basically, it’s an inborn talent that has to be “awakened” by something, and whatever awakens it informs what you can do – Alice’s talent was awakened by her dreams of Wonderland, so now she has dreamwalker abilities and some minor illusion magic; Victor’s was awakened by accidentally marrying Emily, so he can still breach the veil and visit the Land of the Dead – I haven’t yet decided what else he might get). I’m definitely seeing some “El Goonish Shive” influence here, but I like that webcomic, so no worries. XD
2. Watch the latest Resident Evil 8 Village LP video from OXBox in my Watch Later and keep up with YouTube Subs: Two-thirds check – due to my parents getting home late for lunch and me getting involved in other stuff on the to-do list, plus the beanbag game, I had to ditch OXBox’s RE8 video. New plan is to watch that, the episode they uploaded today, and the episode I expect them to upload next Monday in a three-part marathon over Memorial Day weekend. As for the videos I DID get to –
A) Decided to substitute Linkara for OXBox, as he got up the latest Atop The Fourth Wall on-time today – “Just Imagine Stan Lee Creating Aquaman!” His version of the guy is a marine scientist who decides to try and make himself able to breathe underwater by injecting himself with sea creature DNA (multiple creatures, no less), ends up in the middle of a weird patch of green glowy water, and ends up with a water-form that can shoot jets of water (of various pressures – strong enough to cut through metal at the highest!), and control his density so he can punch people while still letting bullets pass through him. He has a police officer brother who is his confidante, and a girlfriend who gets bored with all his sea life talk and only cares about partying. The concept is pretty solid, but the girlfriend comes off as pretty vapid, and the villains are pretty ludicrous (you should SEE what the woman of the pair is wearing under her robe). Still, it’s an Aquaman whom I wouldn’t mind seeing the further adventures of, so win there!
B) Then it was onto Call Me Kevin and – a bit of a weird video. He started off by watching his past self watching his past-past self playing Call of Duty and commenting on his past self’s commentary on his past-past self’s performance. Confused yet? Imagine what it’s like for me, who does not play any CoD games and is generally confused as to what’s even going on during these death matches. XD Fortunately the thrust of the video was simple to understand – “Past-Past-Me was much better at these kinds of games and I am going to prove it.” And prove it he did, though it took two CoD games because the first one (which took three hours to install) had like 28 players and Kevin couldn’t play any of the game modes he wanted. And in the second, he got wrecked by the other, more advanced players pretty often. Ended with an equal amount of kills to deaths, which he took as a win. Sometimes, you gotta “redefine” winning. Especially after pivoting your channel to more casual games and an ongoing Sims 4 series.
C) And finally we had GrayStillPlays and more Happy Wheels! Things started off hard with Gray running for his life from a bunch of homing mines, only to run into a WALL of the damn things – he did beat it in the end, but it took some doing! We also had a hobo wheelchair bottle run (with multiple stages – and he does NOT control as well as the dad on the bike); an impossible board of harpoons and spikes that was won by just refusing to play (fortunately Gray never met a gap he didn’t like); the return of the beloved bottle flip (Gray made it rain watermelons, did something illegal, and flipped a bottle onto a square just above the flipper); a hobo rope swing through spikes that required EXTREMELY precise timing (Gray probably took longer on this than he really should have), and an impossible bottle run that was SUPPOSED to catapult you across the bottle into some spikes (the real win was to fail the bottle run and fall down to the winning area below) – but somehow Gray landed it just right so the dad survived the spikes and was able to back UP to the winning area. XD Ah, there’s a reason I love watching him play this game.
3. Play Sims 4 and see about trying to finish up the Ice Cream Conery : Check, though I’m not QUITE finished with the lot just yet. It’s definitely coming along, though – I’m pretty satisfied with the main actual “ice cream parlor” area, and I’ve made some good strides with the kitchen. I also finally figured out what to do with one of the “stem” levels – I turned it into a children’s play area! Big arcade machine, “Don’t Wake The Llama” game, toy box, Voidcritter Battle Station, science lab. . . I think it looks really nice! Still deciding what I want to do with the ground floor, though maybe some chess tables and activity tables will do for down there. . . Also made an outdoor patio with a sign, a ground mural, and a busking area. I’m hopeful I’ll be able to pull it all together the next time I come back to it to build!
4. Get in a workout: Check – another round on the bike to complete “Nuka-World Level One Survival!” I caught up with Minnie as, after Jon had a good laugh about the Blacks and Mason just teleporting themselves to the roof by going inside the building and how the DLC might finish itself without Minnie doing anything, she eventually headed inside and actually helped out her raider companions. She and the Blacks (Mason was still on the roof) fought their way through the internals of the power plant, taking on the Disciples inside. Minnie even got a Legendary spawn with a fun new toy – an Explosive Radium Rifle! She promptly proceeded to explosively fire radiation on any enemy she could reach, Jon cackling all the while. Minnie may be pretty melee-focused, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t appreciate the value of a good gun!
With the lesser Disciples rather explosively cleared out, Minnie and the Blacks finally reached the roof, ready to take out Nisha! Who, by the time Minnie was able to get a line of sight on her, was pretty much already dead. . .but Minnie, fueled by rage and waaaay too much Nuka-Cola Quantum, was NOT going to let that stop her from Nuka-Nuking her traitorous gang leader to hell and back!
She, uh, should have let that stop her. Mostly because a) Nisha actually died just moments before Minnie actually took the shot, meaning she was no longer a valid target and b) Jon seems to have forgotten that Nuka-Nukes are explosives and thus do a hell of a lot of splash damage. Meaning, the Nuka-Nuke hit the dead (but frozen upright) Nisha, exploded –
And damaged the other raider bosses. Cue a baffled and panicked Jon suddenly noticing all these notices popping up in the corner declaring he was now enemies with the raiders of Nuka-World (and with his communes in the Commonwealth) and that he’d failed “Power Play.” And because there are no beds in the power plant, he hadn’t saved, meaning he now had to run with his accidental decision to start “Open Season!” Cue a panicked Minnie running around with her Shiny Slugger, desperately trying to murder William Black and Mason before they could kill her (Mags was taken out either by the blast or by a Legendary Disciple Mason later killed, it’s kind of hard to tell). Fortunately, she’s so good at melee that she was able to do so, leaving her with a bunch of corpses, an Enraging Three-Barrel Missile Launcher from the Legendary, and a power button to push and restore power to the park. She left the two former, pressed the latter, and headed back to the park, deeply embarrassed by her mistake.
Of course, the raiders still INSIDE the park didn’t give a shit that it was a mistake. Minnie was able to get past them briefly to get back to the Fizztop (and I presume drop a save), then headed back down in her Quantum X01 to finish what she had not planned to start, taking down Porter Gage for starters and then clearing out the last of the raiders in Nuka-Town USA and the Nuka-Town Market. This was not particularly easy, as a number of the raiders had very fast-firing weapons, but with some last drugs and another overload of Nuka-Cola Quantum, Minnie was victorious, and Mackenzie and the other traders were freed. Minnie played it off as her just deciding to kill a bunch of people (Mackenzie: “. . .hope you’ve scratched that itch”), and Jon mused about how in the history books this is going to look like Minnie lured all these raider bosses into an elaborate trap, instead of just stupidly trying to nuke someone super-close to the people she was trying to befriend. XD
And so the DLC ended with Minnie assuming the role of Nuka-Girl (Jon had made sure to loot the costume from the Nuka-Galaxy coaster), returning to the Commonwealth, killing Preston Garvey (in a fade-to-black, as Preston is actually essential and the most you can do is make him mad), and setting up a Nuka-throne for herself, planning on spreading the love of Nuka-World to the masses – and maybe join up with another gang and convince them that farming, booze, and drugs is the way to go. XD What a ridiculous little series – I loved it. I may not play any of the “evil” options myself in games, but it can be amusing to see people run with them, if they’re sufficiently over-the-top. And as an added note of hilarity, the video ended with Jon explaining his plans for Fallout 4 videos on his channel – a short break, and then, once he’d sufficiently planned, the start of the YOLO series!
“Nuka-World Level One Survival” ended June 23, 2017. “You Only Live Once” started October 25, 2020.
So we’re defining “short breaks” as three years now, Jon? XD I mean, shit happens, and I’m really enjoying YOLO now that it’s here, but – come on. That’s funny.
5. Work on tumblr drafts for VictorLuvsAlice/AliceDommesVictor: Check – while waiting for my parents to come home so we could have lunch (they were helping an elderly friend get in her air conditioners), I put together the pictures and starter text for my Newcrest Adventures posts this week, and finished up the text this evening after my YouTube videos and webcomics! And I finally got the theme editor on tumblr to work, so I was able to clean up and select something nice for AliceDommesVictor! So that was good. :)
Additionally:
-->Bright and sunny day, so we did end up playing beanbag game – didn’t do as great today, though. My scores currently stand at W-3-3-3-2 – great first game (helped by Dad throwing a last-minute dud), then my parents came back and I ended up succumbing to the dreaded bounce. Dad won the second, third, and last games, while Mom won the fourth – so we each won at least once, which is cool by me.
So yeah, pretty nice day off, barring some annoyance over late meals and whatnot. But it's back to work tomorrow, meeeh. However, short week, followed by another three-day weekend! Yes, this upcoming Saturday is the big "cleaning and laundry" day, but -- *shrug* Gotta be done! Not like I have any plans beyond "watch OXBox RE8 videos and play video games." Let me just answer my DW comment, then it's off to bed. Night all!
