Rainy But Productive Saturday
Mar. 19th, 2022 11:39 pmSort of off-and-on rain today, with some really drenching moments interspersed with more light and foggy ones. . .just generally miserable out there, really. But, on the plus side, I did very well with all my time indoors:
1. Edit the gift fic due next Saturday: Check! Did this after supper – tweaked some things here and there, expanded on why Victor has a thing for vampires and getting his blood sucked, and rejiggered the ending a little so the comedy flowed slightly better. XD I think Newt’s gonna like it – it’s both very soft and sweet with Victor and Alice, and pretty funny with Alice still just not getting why Guillermo likes Nandor. (Honestly, Alice, it’s because he’s pretty much a disaster himself.)
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and watch the Plumbella video in my Watch Later: Check – even managed to fit in a nice bonus video! Always a plus –
A) Started with the Plumbella this afternoon – “I tried to make this dollhouse into an actual build in The Sims 4!” Another spin of the wheel brought this up, and Plumbella, after looking at all the dollhouse options in-game, decided to recreate the castle dollhouse! (Though she said she’s open to doing the Victorian one and the magical tree one in future.) She wasn’t able to get it exactly like the dollhouse – she went with a lighter color for the stone because she didn’t like any of the other options, went with blue roofs as it was as close as she could get, and obviously matching the rooms was always a matter of “close enough,” but it came out really well! And we discovered that some assets that would be used in later packs were apparently first put into the dollhouses, as Plumbella discovered the bookcase in the castle is damn near an exact match for a bookcase that came with Get Together. . .weird, huh? Anyway, it was a fun little build video, and I’m hoping she takes some suggestions from the comments to try and do a functional dollhouse recreation – that is, Sims can live in it. :)
B) Then, this evening, we had the latest AT4W – “Secret Invasion!” The event comic about the shape-shifting Skrulls invading Earth now that their empire was gone, and the heroes descending into paranoia because of it! Or, at least, that’s what happened in the BUILD-UP issues and the TIE-INS. The actual miniseries itself? Pretty much all fight scenes with a few little character moments, like Tony nearly being convinced he was a Skrull, Hawkeye being heartbroken when his former lover Mockingbird is proven to be a Skrull, and Norman Osborne getting the Mar-Vell Skrull to fight for humanity before getting all the glory by killing the queen and becoming the new leader of Hammer with his secret cabal of baddies. It’s a pretty classic case of “great idea, horrible execution” – there’s a lot of good moments that are completely ignored because everybody just wants to get to the next big dust-up. Meeh. At least we got some more of Linkara’s excellent “Dr. Doom” impersonation out of it. XD
C) Then it was over to the Subs for today’s Call Me Kevin – “Minecraft but every block has random loot!” Yes, he had modded Minecraft so that everything had its loot drop randomized – cutting down seaweed could get you raw mutton, for example, and breaking apart sand produced enchanted fishing rods and treasure maps! Kevin’s actual goal was to find diamond, which as you might imagine, took a while. He farmed solid gold blocks and coal from trees; got blackstone from sugar cane; discovered sunken treasure chests with nothing but random bits of leather, tore up flowers for ladders, and discovered that SO MANY THINGS DROP CANDLES IN THIS DAMN MOD. XD He built himself the world’s Tackiest Rich Person house with the gold blocks and blackstone (enhanced with a bright blue door made of warped wood, and blue and lime green carpet), and in desperation turned to murdering villagers and horses once he finally found the combination that got him the wood he needed for a boat – but his goal was only achieved when he smashed up an orange bed to get cracked gravel, which in turn yielded diamond and diamond horse armor! After only an hour of playtime, no less. XD And then Kevin went back to the village to smash up more beds, got flint and steel, set everyone on fire, set HIMSELF on fire, and then missed the water pool when he jumped off the nearby mountain and died. XD A fitting end, if he does say so himself (and he does). XD Cripes, this whole thing reminded me of Gray’s old chaos-modded Minecraft videos. . .
D) Speaking of which, finally we had GrayStillPlays and more water slide fun in GTA V! Specifically, “i found a 100,000,000 mile long water slide in GTA 5!” And wonder of wonders, IT WAS ACTUALLY A WATER SLIDE THIS TIME. As in, they were slides, they were filled with water, and Gray went down them as just Florida Man, not with a car! And they were truly spaghetti hell, as he noted – there were three layers of slide, starting from ABOVE THE FREAKING SKYBOX. The first one was just “choose a slide, figure out how you control your ragdolling body, and survive the long drop;” the second one was “choose a slide, transfer BETWEEN slides on the regular, and also AVOID ALL THESE WIND TURBINES DURING JUMPS;” and the third one was “you like colors and multiple choice? Only ONE of these color-coded checkpoints actually leads to the end!” Gray suffered quite a lot on all of them – missing the slides during jumps, getting smacked around by wind turbines, and on the third one constantly choosing the wrong platform color and getting sent back to the beginning for another try diving into the cursed flat water pouring from the slide above. XD He did eventually figure it out (pink platform, left slide) and got to watch Meaty Bits bend in terrible ways to bulldozer a bunch of people down the final slides and into a pool to score points, but it was a long, hard road to get there, that’s for certain. XD Oh Gray. . .
3. Play Sims 4 and build the haunted farm that will eventually be Victor, Alice, and Smiler's home in Henford-on-Bagley: Check! After updating my game, updating MC Command Center and Wonderful Whims, and taking out the mods I’m currently not sure work because I don’t see any updates from the creators, I fired up the game, enabled mods and CC again, then hopped into my building save and went to 2 Olde Mill Lane to build my farmhouse! After looking on my iPad at some pictures, I found a rough design I liked and went to work. I kept it pretty minimal, all things considered – the idea is that this farm has been abandoned for a while (because of the spectres), so there’s not much to it. But I did mark out all the rooms, and put a few basics in there – the kitchen has all the cheapest kitchen stuff, the bathrooms all have toilets and sinks (and the en-suite for the master bedroom also has that “invisible” shower), and there’s one bed in the master bedroom. A Sim could TECHNICALLY live there, is what I’m saying, but it’s meant to be a renovation project. As such, I actually had a lot of fun placing stain “rugs” on the floor, cracks, chips, and holes on the walls, and some cobwebs in the corners to make the place look really run down. XD I even added a barn around the back with a little upper “loft” area and some shutterless windows, and a touch of landscaping. Quite proud of the finished product – even if when I showed it to Mom, she pointed out to me that I’d forgotten a sink in the kitchen. XD Ah well – the idea is that this is where Victor, Alice, and Smiler are gonna live once they all get together and move to Henford-on-Bagley, so once I bring them in, they SHOULD have some money to fix up the place, plus their own furniture.
And if YOUR Sim wants to live there, I actually put it up on the Gallery! Look for AliceNVictor, “2 Olde Mill Lane Haunted.” It’s a three-bathroom, three-bedroom house, about $35 grand, with the “Haunted House Residential” lot type. Lot Traits are Great Soil, Home Studio, Great Acoustics; Lot Challenges are Off-The-Grid, Reduce and Recycle, Simple Living, and Wild Foxes. I actually got one download right after I put it up, which amazed me – I don’t know who wanted a haunted farm at that exact second, but thanks for downloading and liking!
4. Work on tumblr drafts: Check! Dedicated a lot of time to it too, both before and after lunch – I finally finished up my write-up on “Smiler Alton,” the plain human version of Smiler for a Modern AU; added the proper tags to my “Incorrect Valicer Quotes” post; wrote up an entirely new post inspired by the fact that my love of The Smiler and the Alton Towers coasters in general just inspired me in regards to a sequel to an old – well, right now it’s a series of scenes rather than an actual FIC, but I’ve got them all collected under the title As Long As You Love Me; and located an old reblog on OT3 dynamics that I wanted to update with some of my poly ships. I was PRODUCTIVE on this shit today!
Nice, huh? I'm pretty proud of myself. :) And now it's time to set up Sunday to-dos:
1. Keep up on the FO4 Playthrough Progression
2. Keep up with YouTube Subs and Jon's F:NV "Utter Chaos" video
3. Play Fallout 4 and get Sunshine Tidings set up before starting toward Diamond City
4. Work on tumblr drafts
5. Get in a workout
Pretty standard Sunday stuff. . .though after seeing me edit the kitchen in the haunted farmhouse for her, Mom wants to see about building OUR kitchen -- or her planned renovation of it -- in Sims 4 so she can get a better idea of it, so that might take up a chunk of time tomorrow. We'll see if and when it comes to pass! *shrug* Night all!
