Decent Friday, Hooray
Apr. 4th, 2025 11:53 pmThe weather turned out to be really nice today -- in the 60s all day, and it got sunnier as the day went on, so by the time I got home it did truly feel like spring. :) A shame that tomorrow is supposed to be in the 40s and rainy. :( Why can't we have gotten the nice day on a Saturday? This had better not be another summer where it's nice every work day and miserable every day I have off... *shakehead* Anyway -- in addition to the nice weather, the rest of my day went pretty good too:
Work – I am pleased to report that I got another quiet day at work to end out the week – I did the GL; I looked some stuff up for one of my supervisors; I checked on the failed credit cards; and I did some roster maintenance. Nothing exciting, and that suits me fine. And the commutes in and back, while not perfect, were not horrendous either. Not a bad way to end what was kind of an iffy week!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – last night on the bike this week, pedaling my way through –
A) The rest of “I am living in a landfill in The Sims 2 Rags to Riches - Part 4” by James Turner! Today portion of the episode featured such things as:
I. Semaj and Iled trying for a baby again, since it was confirmed Iled hadn’t gotten pregnant the first time – and actually succeeding! :D Though it proved to be a rather rough pregnancy for poor Iled – not only were they still dealing with the massive trash situation for most of it, she also nearly burned the house down making omelets (fortunately James was able to get her to put the fire out) and spent most of one day falling asleep in her food as she was both tired AND starving. XD But she made it through and out the other side, and delivered a healthy baby boy, Reswob (aka the name of James and Deli’s beloved dog Bowser backwards XD). James turned Semaj and Iled’s office into a nice nursery for him (moving their desk into the living room and their counterfeiting machine into the expanded garage) with space-themed wallpaper and a racetrack carpet, then left the kid in the care of the Sims 2 nanny. Frankly surprised the child wasn’t immediately taken away. XD
II. Semaj and Iled taking care of the “living in a trash heap with worryingly-large numbers of flies and cockroaches around” first by hiring a mad to clean up all the trash in the shop and yard (which proved to be a little much for her to complete in one day – especially since she kept insisting on bringing everything upstairs to put in the trash compactor); then by having Semaj build another cleanbot...and then repair that and the previous two so they’d suck up all the trash; and finally by having an exterminator come in and hose the place down thoroughly with poison to finally kill all the cockroaches. There’s still a lot of dead cockroach bodies to clean up, but the place is looking like a nice shop people might want to visit instead of a garbage dump again!
III. Semaj and Iled continuing to grind robotics and flower-arranging until they both got Gold talent badges! And while Semaj being able to now make Servos is pretty exciting, Iled getting that Gold Flower-Arranging badge was the more useful of the two. Reason? Snapdragon bouquets that regularly “mist” the area around them to provide anyone within three tiles powerful mood boosts! Basically these things refill all needs except Energy if you stay in misting range. James promptly had her make tons and filled the garage with them, along with putting some in the baby’s room to make sure Reswob never actually had needs to tend. :p I mean, given what he’d just gone through with the robot mayhem, can you blame the guy?
IV. And James preparing to reopen the store by replacing the colorful cubes with a bunch of nice green shelves for all of Iled’s flowers, and using old “move objects on” to get the now-not-broken robots onto pedestals so he didn’t have to sell them from the floor. There’s a fuckton of stock now, so reopening the store should be VERY lucrative indeed…
So yeah – they are definitely keeping busy in Sims 2 land! Episode ended with the game informing James that Reswob would be growing up soon – next week, we’ll see the kid become a toddler, and what chaos that brings!
B) The entirety of “I Explored The Best Ways To Make Firework Shows In The Sims 4” by Petey Plays It! A quick five-minute video he posted today talking about all the different types of fireworks in The Sims 4: City Living and how they work (I never knew that spinners consisted of something that actually leapt in the air and spun! I though the wick spun or something like that), and how to make beautiful displays by taking advantage of the fact that fireworks set directly next to each other (not on a diagonal, though) will light each other. Meaning that if you make a fancy pattern of fireworks all branching off a “starter” firework, you can light that one, then step back and watch as they all go off in hopefully perfectly-timed bliss! Petey recommended using a spark fountain for that starter firework, as they last a while and look good as they set off all the other fireworks. Neat stuff, and makes me think that – if I ever get back to actually PLAYING Sims 4, I’ll have to up my “SimCity Founding” game! (Before you say anything, of course I’m going to include that holiday in future saves – the Sims deserve their own version of 4th of July!)
2. Continue working on “A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded”: Check – got a nice healthy chunk done today, with Alice hearing the children and Bumby coming inside (just barely, admittedly) and realizing that their time was running out; Smiler, fortunately, managing to crack the lock on the safe right afterward; and the three of them looking through the ledger that they found within, with its columns detailing Bumby’s expenses and profits in raising and selling his charges – and an aside regarding Alice’s arrival in the Home, where he openly admitted to wanting to wipe her mind and turn her into a prostitute – or, perhaps, a personal sex slave. Smiler was like “want to go downstairs right now and murder him?” after reading THAT, and I don’t blame them. But Alice has decided that would put the children in too much danger, and so the gang are preparing to go out the window instead! Tomorrow, we’ll tackle their escape, and how smoothly it actually goes...
3. Keep up with YouTube Subs: Half check – it was Game Night tonight, and we had a couple long rounds of Scrabble (Mom creamed me and Dad in the first game, but I won the second – granted, with a little help from Mom on word placement, but still), meaning, after I did all my writing, there wasn’t a lot of time for videos. So, in a change of pace, I skipped the longer GrayStillPlays video and instead focused on the latest from Josh Way today – “Hello, Viewers! Rethinking YouTube and Patreon!” A roughly ten-minute video of his thoughts on – well, YouTube and Patreon. Which could be summed up as, “My patrons over on Patreon finally listened to me about the whole ‘you pledge per post’ thing and capped their pledges, so I no longer feel such a need to flood that space with stuff for them to look at. Which means I’m thinking of moving my movie reviews over to my podcast since I don’t need videos of them for posts, and just keeping up with a Fun With Shorts episode every other week, but I want to hear from my YouTube audience about what they want first.”
Naturally, most of the comments were like, “uh, yeah, we’re here for Fun With Shorts.” XD Like, nobody openly dissed the movie reviews, but it was made clear that they weren’t the main draw for most of the watchers. I admit, while I have watched and enjoyed them, I too am mainly here for the shorts, and said as much in my comment. While mentioning that I enjoyed that time when he was putting up time lapses of him drawing stuff – those were fun! So we’ll see what happens with the channel going forward, I guess – I suspect it’s going to become mostly shorts again after this, but who knows for sure...
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check and check –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – Managed to finish off my Song Saturday post tonight, featuring “Souls” by BONES UK! A a very chill song about someone relishing all the happy memories she makes with all of her various lovers. Not sure if it’s truly poly or about someone who just has a lot of relationships/flings, but in my head, it’s become linked to my Running Headlong Into The Bullshit mega-polycule. So it felt like an appropriate song to cap off Multiamory March. :)
Valice Multiverse – Another reblog from Coven Wars on our latest thread, with the boy who crashed into Forgotten Vows!Alice introducing himself to her as Richard Lewis. I had Alice say it was nice to meet him and ask what brought him to their corner of the world – we’ll see what the answer is tomorrow!
Yeah, I'll take that for a Friday. But now I really must go to bed, as I have obligations tomorrow that require me to be up earlier than usual. Gonna be a video catch-up Saturday tomorrow, with the main goals being to continue working on "A Murder Shared Is A Murder Thirded" and catching up on all the videos in my Watch Later and Subs. We'll see how that works out! Night all!
