Thoughts on Statting
Jan. 7th, 2011 11:55 pmNot much to talk about today -- I watched "Robin Hood: Men In Tights" and fooled around on the Internet and worked a bit on Winter Bingo drabbles for
8butterflyboy8. Also watched the latest Nerd vid, which is about one of the dullest games ever. You think a game about daydreaming would be fun, but that game really sucks all the life out of the concept.
Anyway, since I don't have much to talk about in terms of stuff going on in real life or on the net, I thought I'd babble on about statting out some of my favorite fictional characters as tabletop RP characters. Specifically, as World of Darkness characters. I did a little of this back when I learned about the Changeling: The Lost line from Geno and his take on it with the BTTF characters. When I started creating what would be
clockwork_doc and
museicalmarty, I worked a little on what I thought their stats would be in the WoD. Of course, Clockwork in particular moved away from being just BTTF/WoD Changeling characters, so I never actually completed anything besides some basic Attribute scores.
Now, thanks to TV Tropes, I've learned about a fan-made line that naturally grabbed my attention: Genius: The Transgression. It's about mad scientists, and warping reality, and all sorts of good stuff. And since I learned about this while I was writing "Secundus," I thought it might be fun to do the stats for Doc and Victor. I threw in Alice after reading one of the templates for a character (what emotion basically drove them over the edge) and thought, "Oh Geez, this is so her." So far, I haven't gotten much down, but considering this is just for shits and giggles, I'm not overworried about it. But there is one area I'd like to talk about a bit.
Virtues and Vices
I've been thinking hard about these, trying to figure out how they fit. I mean, each character has their good and bad points, but HOW are they good or bad? It's a bit tricky when you have to fit them into one choice out of seven for each category. And every time I think I have a handle on it, I reread the descriptions and start second-guessing myself. Like, Doc's Virtue MIGHT be Fortitude, but it could also be Faith or Hope. Alice's Vice MIGHT be Wrath, but one could make a case for Sloth too. These are multifaceted characters, and I don't want to do anyone a disservice.
So, if anyone wants to offer up their thoughts on the matter, I'd be interested. Our characters are:
Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown
Victor Van Dort
Alice Liddell
And your choices are:
Virtues:
Charity
Faith
Fortitude
Hope
Justice
Prudence
Temperance
Vices:
Envy
Gluttony
Greed
Lust
Pride
Sloth
Wrath
