Jan. 4th, 2021 11:18 pmAnd, as usual, not doing so great on the old time front. . .or the part where my back doesn't itch like crazy. *growls, scratches* I already miss being able to stay up as late as I want. . .
Anyway -- first day back at work was stressful, as anticipated. Lot of people to try and call about credit card stuff, lot of GLs to try and wrangle, the general "uuugh" feeling of being back in the office. . .none of it was fun. I did at least make all the calls and get MOST of the GLs sorted, but -- *deep sigh* Four more days to go. At least Light Rock 105 is playing a better variety of music these days!
Afternoon was all right, at least -- I've made myself a standard evening to-do list to check off:
1. Get in a workout: Check! Another bike ride, which meant more time with Jon’s Fallout 4 Survival Playthrough! Having gotten what he needed from Cedric, Grills took a moment to wander into the back of the Third Rail and grab MacCready, then made his way back to the Warwick Farm to use the power of the Sparkly Red Dress to talk down Bill Sutton (with Jon laughing in the background over the fact that poor Bill’s paranoia is right and this quest is all about making him doubt himself). From there, Grills went down to Wilson’s Atomatoys to get those Giddyup Buttercup parts for Arlen Glass at the Slog! Which – proved to be more difficult than anticipated, as the factory was taken over by Super Mutants. Really tough Super Mutants. Including a version that Jon had never seen before – a Primus! It’s lucky he was in power armor, really, because these boys took a LOT of shots to take down. Fortunate Jon has some really nice laser weaponry and pistols that can disarm his opponents! Also he leveled up at a good moment, which helped heal him up in preparation for taking on a legendary with a Nimble Combat Rifle (75% faster movement speed while aiming, I think). He grabbed the interesting loot, the box of parts Glass wanted, and as many Giddyup Buttercup bits as he could carry for scrap. A quick teleport down to the Institute to finish off “Building A Better Crop” (getting 20 Stimpacks as a reward and putting him over capacity), and Grills finished off the day heading back to base and musing on his next adventure. What was said next adventure?
Why, taking on the final fight in Automatron, of course! Episode 37 opened with Grills prepping for his fight against the Mechanist – shoring up his power armor so he’d be more resistant to energy damage, and installing the tracking beacon (or whatever it is, precisely) they need to find their headquarters on – Codsworth. Yeah, he has more or less ignored Ada (who is supposed to be the focal point of the whole DLC) throughout this whole mission, and this does genuinely irritate me a bit. Mostly because I feel like Ada REALLY gets the short end of the stick when it comes to companion stuff (being left off “companion react” posts on tumblr and suchlike), and I DO like her. She and Victor traveled together for a while in my original save, and I was quite fond of her. Let me hug the robot, Bethesda. :( And give her some more respect while I’m at it!
2. Keep up with YouTube subscriptions: Check! We had:
A) Today’s Call Me Kevin – a sponsored video featuring more of GTA V Chaos Mod! (The sponsor wasn’t Rockstar, btw – it was a headphones brand. Kevin is free of the oof!) Kevin tried to get Michael a nice haircut and new style to turn him into a taxi driver, but that didn’t go well – both because the mod teleported Michael out of the barber shop to “Heaven” and sent him plummeting to Earth in a DeLorean, and because apparently you can’t do taxi missions with Michael – it has to be Franklin. So Kevin tried to switch, but Franklin was stuck in his house thanks to previous chaos, so instead Kevin did a couple of story missions. “Fame or Shame” saw Michael and Trevor chasing down what I assume is a reality TV star, briefly with the help of Paul (Michael’s spawned-in life partner) and hindered incredibly by things like extreme gravity, deadly agents, being incredibly famous (which led to them ACCIDENTALLY RUNNING OVER their star-struck target), and random Ferris wheels. XD “The Last One,” by contrast, featured Franklin in a monster truck trying to kill Bigfoot who was driving a bus. No, that’s not how the mission is supposed to go, but I’m sure we can agree it’s superior to canon, right? The prologue, meanwhile, featured loose triggers, deadly aim (meaning Kevin had to make a cutscene where one of the protags was taken hostage awkwardly long to avoid murdering everyone), and killer clowns fighting the police. Just another day in KTA V land! XD
B) And on the Gray side of things. . .
1. Oh, look at that, more GTA V stunt races! The theme of this episode? Mindfuck boards! :D Basically challenges with wall rides and loop-de-loops and such, but figuring out which way is actually UP is not easy! Either that or you’re getting fucked over by slightly-offset ramps. Or ramps in water. Or Sprunk machines in water! Or all of the above! Though, hilariously, poor Gray’s worst board was a relatively simple wall ride with almost NO margin for error. XD The narrower they are, the more painful it is to fail. Good thing Gray has a never-ending font of masochism to pull from!
2. Speaking of which, time for more Fun With Ragdolls: The Game challenges! Two, in fact – a laser challenge that required quite a bit of precise jumping. . .and THE CLIMB FROM HELL. Turrets, deadly floor bits, thrusters, fans, weird movable blocks, and a variety of other fun things – and ragdolling onto a check point did NOT count as completing it. Poor Gray was suffering SO MUCH as he tried to find the optimum way to climb the mountain. . .and then he reached the top, fell off, and found a message reading “THE END IS ELSEWHERE.” Turns out the completion flag was hidden IN THE MOUNTAIN ITSELF. Gray found it, and promptly told everyone to NEVER MAKE ANOTHER BOARD LIKE THIS FOR HIM AGAIN. (There will be a hundred just like it by next episode, just you wait.)
3. Write on “In A World Of His Own”: Check! Victor and Alice are officially acquainted with the Artist now, and a musing on the rainbow rain has turned to the three discussing their opinions on tattoos (consensus – looks pretty, but nobody wants to deal with the pain of getting one, especially if it turns out bad). These chapters take some weird detours when I’m writing, let me tell you. Ah well, it is fun. XD
So that's all good, at least. If I can keep up with at least the latter two daily, I'll be good. :) I also helped Mom with the newest puzzle (2,000 pieces, eeeep), and I JUST got up the early drafts of my Newcrest Adventures update for Wednesday -- really wanted to get that done, despite my distractions with webcomics and whatnot! So yeah, at least all the pictures are in, tags are sorted, and I have a bit of starter caption text. Typical Monday, honestly. :p
Okay -- let's answer my DW comment, then I have to get to bed. Hopefully things will be a little calmer tomorrow, and I'll actually have a moment to breathe. Honestly, just hoping the whole week goes relatively quickly. . . One day and it already feels like it wiped out two weeks out of the office. Ugh. *shakehead* Night all!
