Productive At A Few Things Labor Day
Sep. 1st, 2025 11:53 pmMostly because, as I indicated would happen yesterday, we spent the afternoon in Westerly today, having a wander and dealing with a whole lot of bugs (seriously, so many little flies and bees and whatnot buzzing around). Which meant that I both didn't have a lot of computer time (precluding me doing things like playing video games or installing Freetube for video watching purposes), nor any time to work out (as we got home a little too late for me to get on the bike). But when it came to tumblr and my writing -- well, baby, I accomplished a lot:
Tumblr: As today was a Monday, I only had Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) to worry about when it came to working on the old tumblrs – and as it was a Monday off, I actually got some shit done –
A) First, I FINALLY completed my “Tav!Smiler In BG3: An Update” post before lunch, making one or two final tweaks to the wording and finishing off the tags! Hooray – that took longer than I wanted!
B) Then, I spent the rest of the time before lunch, and a good chunk of time after supper, revising and finishing off Tav!Smiler’s backstory in my “BG3 Master Doc,” before turning it into a follow-up post to the “Update” post in my drafts! Because I really wanted to share the backstory that I came up with for Tav!Smiler, but after going over all their in-game stats and spell lists and whatnot, the original post was just too long. So follow-up post it was!
C) THEN, after getting that done, I also started a draft of another post featuring a bunch of the screenshots I’ve taken of the game – including Smiler’s spiral-horned yellow-and-purple-themed tiefling Dream Guardian; Smiler with baby Us, right after brain extraction; Smiler on the beach in their freshly-redyed Warlock robes; Smiler looking out across the pretty pretty water on one of the wrecked docks on the Ravaged Beach; and Smiler chilling on a log in camp. I’ve gotten most of the main text done, along with some of the tags – tomorrow, hopefully I can find some time to do the image alt text and clean things up a little more! Because if I can get it done, then I can queue up that post with all the others to do a whole “Tav!Smiler” week on my tumblr this week…
D) And, along the way, I found a bit of time to actually just straight-up reblog a few things:
I. A post by lmaonade simply going “i cant play horror games man fuck what if i turn the corner and see a thing or something” – as this is my exact attitude toward horror games (I like them in THEORY, but in practice I am annoyingly susceptible to jumpscares, sooo…), I felt it deserved a place on my blog
II. A thread between daemonhxckergrrl and opensuse-official bemoaning smart TVs and how shitty they are with their spyware and their fifty million apps for watching everything, which turned into a bitch about how everything has been enshittified these days and how they wish there was more tech that was simpler and could be serviced by the average person and didn’t spy on you even a little – which I mainly reblogged because, much as I agree that modern technology is something of a shitshow, there was an addition at the end by one sexyborg talking about how, at the end of September, the Social Security Administration will stop mailing out paper checks and force recipients to either have direct deposit or receive their benefits on a special paycard (which you have to take to a bank teller to withdraw money from). Which was only tangentially related to the original point, but felt like important information to share nonetheless!
III. And a fun post by goatsandgangsters about a 1908 text they’ve been reading that keeps using phrases like “not being at full hp” or “applying your full hp to a task.” Which intrigued them, because obviously the author couldn’t be using “hp” to refer “hit points” or anything like that, because – 1908. So they looked it up, and it turns out “hp” back then referred to “horsepower!” Which – also makes sense in the context of those phrases (especially the second one). They just thought it was neat that despite “hp” meaning two very different things to readers from 1908 and 2025, the phrases remained easy to understand because the CONTEXT didn’t really change. I did too, and thus reblogged it. :P
Whew – that was a lot! But it’s nice to feel like I accomplished something over here. :)
Writing: Ended up doing a lot of writing today too, which pleased me:
A) First off, as per the “Tumblr” section above, I refined and finished writing up Tav!Smiler’s backstory in the “BG3 Master Doc” – covering where they came from, how they escaped from Kelman’s control, when they met Mar-Mal and made their pact, when they met Matt and Carol Alton, how they became a traveling potion seller, and when they became an official Warlock (hint – it was at the very start of the game). Feels good to have that sorted! Especially since it allowed me to make it all a tumblr post. :p
B) And second, I couldn’t resist doing a bit more on “The Van Dort Vacancy,” writing the gang leaving the vault and navigating their way back down the trap-filled hall while discussing escape plans – Victor telling them about the tradesman’s entrance Nell had put in, which he thinks would be their best bet; Barnaby getting whiny and asking why they couldn’t just go out the front door, as befits a man of his station; and Kasimir suggesting splitting the party, with Barnaby going out the front, Victor going out the tradesman’s entrance, and he, Alice, and Smiler going out the kitchen – only for Alice to point out Mrs. Pemberly would put the three of them to work immediately if she saw them again. The plan they came up with by the time they reached the door back into the mansion proper was to sneak over to the tradesman’s entrance, then let Barnaby split off and leave the party through the front door while the rest of them went out the back – tomorrow, we’ll see how that goes for them! Hint – not as well as they’d hoped...
Other: Discovered that the Internet Archive site has full scores for both Fallout 2 and Fallout 4 and will just let you listen to them on the site with their built-in music player, so that’s nice. New option for when I need background music! :)
*nods* So yeah. Pretty good for a day spent largely out of the house. But now I really have to go to bed, because I DO have work tomorrow, and I should probably attempt to get some sleep before then. Hopefully it won't be too stressful a day -- night all!
