T-Minus 3...
Sep. 9th, 2025 11:54 pmMade it another day closer to the old vacay -- let me give you the stats:
Work – A slightly-busier day today than yesterday, featuring:
A) A brief struggle this morning with the credit card processor site, which kept giving me “504 Gateway Time-out” errors until I restarted my computer at my coworker’s suggestion
B) A QC file for the latest set of thank-yous going out from our processors, which took me most of the morning to complete – discovered a pledge that I think is someone’s attempt to pay the rest of their existing pledge online and left them a message about it, and another pledge that was put on in error (the donor was trying to make a payment on their existing pledge, but used an old “ask” mailing to make it) that I removed later
C) A QC file for the latest set of pledge billings going out from our database providers, which I did in the afternoon – that fortunately went pretty smoothly, though I did have to ask for two names to be removed (the donors in question had JUST had their final payments on their pledges processed that day)
Plus the usual questions from my coworker and whatnot. *shrug* It all made the day go by, at least! We’ll see what tomorrow brings!
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another night with Ghostbusters II! Today’s chunklet spanned the capture of the Scoleri brothers and the montage of the Busters back in business (fun fact: I never realized Slimer was specifically eating Louis’s lunch in the scene where Louis catches him scarfing down food in the fire station until today) all the way through Ray, Egon, and Winston cutting short Peter’s date with Dana to let him know about the river of mood slime under New York and how it’s going to the museum Dana works at, followed by the boys attempting to tell the mayor about it and how it’s a reflection of all the negative energy in the city, only to get dismissed (and told “being an asshole is every New Yorker’s God-given right” XD). I left off with the mayor’s assistant getting the four committed to get them out of the way – tomorrow, we watch the climax and the Statue of Liberty getting to take a little walk downtown. :D Can’t wait!
2. Update my BG3 Master Doc with some playthrough progression notes: Quarter of a check – after some serious debate with myself, I decided that I genuinely didn’t want to leave for my vacation in the middle of writing the epilogue for “The Van Dort Vacancy” (as I think it’ll take longer than three days to write – especially since I have to confirm which order I want the three scenes that make it up are in; pretty sure it’ll be “Alice meets June at the market,” then “Victor gives Alice and Smiler their presents,” then “Victor completes his Whisper mask,” but we’ll see!), so I decided to update the BG3 Master Doc with some quick notes regarding what’s happened in my playthrough of Bardlock Smiler so far. Except then I ended up getting stuck trying to figure out if I just wanted to do quick notes, or copy over the recaps I’ve been writing up for you guys. *sigh* I THINK it would be smarter to do quick notes – I’m trying NOT to turn this into a fanfic thing – but I dunno. I may go ahead and copy stuff over, then just edit it down. We’ll see! On the plus side, I did:
A) Do a COUPLE of quick notes, covering Smiler finding and freeing Us (very important, that)
B) Go back through all my recent entries and tag anything with a BG3 writeup as “bg3 warlock smiler run” – yes, I am actually using TAGS again! On DW! Who would have fucking thought! But yeah, this way I can now FIND all my old write-ups a lot easier! Either for copying or reference – again, we’ll see!
So yeah – quarter check just for getting that done! Hopefully I will accomplish more tomorrow!
3. Watch something on FreeTube: Check – it was back to Josh Way’s channel tonight, for “Fun With Shorts: Staying Away From Strangers [PATREON EXCLUSIVE!]” Only the title doesn’t make sense now because Josh has released it to all the plebs on account of it being at least four years old. :p Anyway, this particular episode featured an animated Coronet short from 1986, in which a cute little alien who traveled about by wheel learned all about “stranger danger!” In particular, that you should never talk to a stranger who tries to talk to you; that you should never go anywhere with a stranger; that if a stranger starts harassing you, you should run away and find other people, like a store clerk or a police officer; and if a stranger grabs you, yell and keep yelling to get attention. Because nobody you KNOW is ever going to try and hurt you, of course. *sigh* Josh’s riffs were good as always, of course – indulging in fun puns regarding people’s names (like “big hammer no Hurtig” about one of the psychologists they consulted); mocking the appearance of some of the strangers (saying that the guy trying to get the little alien to leave the playground with him wanted them to help him test drive an Audi, for example); and of course pointing out that the two HUMAN children in the short just made first contact with an alien species, shouldn’t that be considered a big deal? :P Just an all around good time!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Check and check, for a change –
Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) – After considering my options, I decided to go with at least a partial Blades In The Dark vibe for this week over here and thus put the following into my queue:
A) My “Valicer In The Dark: ‘The Van Dort Vacancy’ Outline!” post (which, naturally, contains the outline I made for “The Van Dort Vacancy” before actually starting to write) for Wednesday (which I initially drafted back when I was working on Chapter 5, and then just – never published for some reason, so I had to quickly edit the opening to reflect the present situation – namely, that I was no longer working on Chapter 5 :P)
B) Some art by ghosts-just-wanna-have-fun of their Whisper character Lorelai Eloise Laughton, in a fancy dress surrounded by various ghosts (which I just found very cool)
C) And that post by seleneelune I liked the other day featuring a pie chart showing how much of a writer’s life is spent actually writing versus daydreaming about their characters (the daydreaming took up a MUCH bigger chunk of the pie – I had to reblog this, because mood)
So that’s most of the week sorted – just have to figure out what’s going up on Saturday, and then I will be set!
Valice Multiverse – And over here, I actually had a pair of anon asks to queue up for tomorrow, to my own surprise:
A) The first asked simply “So, do you ever stop to wonder if Medusa's leg hair was little snakes too?” Which IMMEDIATELY made me think of Edvard wondering that same thing about Lilith’s father (who, like the rest of her family, has snakes for hair) in “A Crimsnight Carol,” so of course I had to have the Valicer In The Dark crew answer it. XD Specifically, I queued up Alice being like “...no? But that’s just because I’m unfamiliar with this ‘Medusa’ person;” Smiler commenting that they must have been from Tycheros (the land of people with demon blood) and wondering if demonic heritage WOULD manifest as snake hair all over the body, or just on the head for weird magical reasons; Victor saying that they could look to see if Elder Gutknecht’s library had any information on the subject once they got home, or just ask Gutknecht himself –
And a passing woman in a hood muttering to herself about how all this was better than trying to feel up someone’s father during Crimsnight. XD I had to – I’ve already established a version of the gang exists in my VITD verse with “The Van Dort Vacancy,” after all!
B) And the second wondered about how you got from “professional writer” (aka writer who is paid) to “author” – for this one, I queued up Secundus!Marty saying that his father said it involved writing until you bleed, and then hoping people think you’re a genius and not an idiot. Secundus!Victor was a little surprised, saying that he thought George LIKED writing – Marty confirmed he did, he just also liked to make it clear it wasn’t exactly easy. Which, mood, George – mood.
Other: It was a nice day today, and as Dad wasn’t busy working out (like yesterday), we went out this afternoon to play some beanbags! As usual, Dad dominated, smoking Mom and me in the first game in just three throws, but I managed to snag a win of my own in the last game, while poor Mom was left in the dust. Final scores were me 2-3-W; Dad W-W-2; Mom 3-2-3. Pretty sure tomorrow it’s supposed to rain, but we might get in one final pre-vacation game on Thursday – we’ll see!
Not too bad a day, I suppose! Though I would have liked to get more writing done...hopefully I'll figure that out tomorrow! In the meantime, I have to get to bed -- night all!
