crossover_chick: a picture of Sims 4 versions of Victor Van Dort and Alice Liddell standing with OC Smiler Alton (Caucausian, black hair, bright yellow eyes) (OT3: Valicer Trio)
It's just not a very exciting week over here in my neck of the woods! But I will give you my daily write-up just the same:

Work – Another super-quiet day at work – I spent almost the entire day seeing how long I could stretch out going through the daily obituaries out of the paper (surprisingly long, as it turned out – I stumbled across a fair number of duplicates/other dead people to clean up as I looked up all the names). I did get a couple of phone calls, but one was explicitly a wrong number, and the other was a lady looking for a Catholic lawyer for will stuff, which – not my area of expertise (I handed her over to my supervisor at my coworker’s suggestion). Ended up doing most of a crossword late in the afternoon just to keep myself busy in the end. *shrug* That time of year... Tomorrow might be more interesting, though, as there’s a chance we’ll be writing off a bunch of Capital Campaign pledges now that my supervisor’s talked to Fiscal. We’ll see what happens!

To-Do List

1. Get in a workout: Check – another night on the bike, another night with my Scott Pilgrim Vs The World Blu-Ray! Tonight’s pedaling took me through the following:

A) The end of the actual movie, which saw Scott and Knives end Gideon Graves (again – it was easiest to restart right before that sequence, and I wanted to watch it again anyway); the appearance of Nega-Scott as the “bonus boss” of sorts, and Scott preparing to take him on – and then the film cutting to them leaving the Chaos Theater cheerfully shooting the shit, as Nega-Scott, despite being the “evil twin,” was a pretty nice guy (XD); and Ramona leaving to start a new life somewhere else because she’s still trying to escape her past – only for Scott (at Knives’s urging) to insist on coming along. Which is fairly romantic, I’m not gonna lie. :)

B) “Scott Pilgrim Vs The Bloopers,” which – as you might guess – was a collection of bloopers from the film, mostly featuring the actors having an extremely hard time keeping a straight face during certain scenes (ESPECIALLY the guy playing Young Neil, Johnny Simmons) and Michael Cera failing over thirty times to land the “throw the package Ramona just delivered over his shoulder and into the bin” shot (he finally got it on the 33rd attempt). And lots of extraneous fucks, because people kept forgetting you couldn’t actually swear in this movie. XD

C) And a set of “alternative takes” of a bunch of different scenes, often including an extra line or two – like Knives and Young Neil’s first meeting, where – after she asks him what he plays, and he starts listing video games – he explicitly tells her that he’s not in the band, he just lives in the house where they practice. Or Wallace calling Ramona a “slut” upon hearing she dated Lucas Lee when they’re all hanging out on the movie set, only to respond to her “hey I’m not a slut” that he meant it as a compliment. Interesting stuff, but I can see why they ditched these versions of the scenes – a lot of the time, the version in the movie was funnier and/or better paced. But you don’t know until you film it!

So yeah! Tomorrow, I’ll probably start on some of the documentaries/behind-the-scenes stuff – still got two days of working out to go this week, after all!

2. Start editing “The Van Dort Vacancy”: Check – went back to my beloved Valicer In The Dark this eve, to start getting the third installment of the series ready for posting! Because I would like to do that sooner rather than later – be nice if I could get at least one chapter up before the end of the year! *nods* Anyway, today’s editing session took me all the way back to the start of Chapter 1, and featured:

A) Victor arriving in the Alton’s kitchen/dining area for breakfast, and admitting to the very cheery Carol that he’d feel weird calling her by her first name, even if she’s all right with it (mostly because his parents drilled into him that he would respect his elders) – but she can call him Victor, that’s fine

B) Victor meeting back up with Smiler by the dining table and admitting that he was a little nervous about going home, given he wasn’t sure how his parents would react to his absence...then sipping his tea and promptly getting distracted by how Smiler makes it so PERFECTLY despite having known him for about four days XD (Smiler: “I’ve always just had a talent for drinks!”)

C) Alice arriving on the scene, playfully informing Victor that Hatter disapproves of how he takes his tea (saying that if he likes cream and sugar that much, he might as well leave the tea out – Victor confessed he’d actually tried just mixing the cream and sugar together and heating it up once, and the resultant concoction was actually a bit TOO sweet for his tastes) and revealing that the mismatched dress Joytide had lent her for her visit was actually very similar to the “Misstitched” one she wore in The Dollhouse. And then telling Smiler exactly how bad The Dollhouse really was when they commented it sounded fun and asked what she did there. Poor Smiler was left speechless for a bit, as you might expect. XD

Ahhh, feels good to get back to my crime trio. Even if they aren’t actually my crime trio at this moment in time. XD Anyway, I left it off with Carol asking Alice if she wants sweet or savory “eggy toast” (aka what they call French toast in that world) – tomorrow, Alice learns that savory “eggy toast” is a thing, and the conversation turns to where Victor and Alice’s old outfits currently are! Hint – those clothes desperately needed a wash...

3. Watch something on FreeTube/Invidious: Check – got in another OXBox list video tonight: “7 Most Unpopular Choices According to the Official Stats!” Mike and Jane talking about those choices that almost no players made, in those video games whose publishers not only track the stats, but occasionally publish fun infographics exposing them to the public. Did you play Minecraft: Story Mode by Telltale and decide to make an enchanted diamond shovel as your first diamond weapon? Congrats, you’re part of a paltry 2.3% of players who chose to do so! Did you play Life Is Strange and, during Chloe’s argument with her stepdad, not only choose to NOT hide in the closet like Chloe asked, but also to reveal that the weed in her room is hers and not yours (admittedly, as a response to her claiming its your joint)? Hope you’re happy being in the 1% of people who decided to do that! Did you get Baldur’s Gate III and, upon acquiring yourself a Minsc in Act III, respect him from his canonical Hunter Ranger self into a Death Domain Cleric, just because you could? How’s it feel to be one of 350 people who did that among the millions of BG3 players? No, seriously, how does it feel, I’m curious. :p (Personally, I’m gonna keep him a Ranger, but I might respec his subclass to Beastmaster so Boo can have some friends. :P)

4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: N/A – I only had Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler) to worry about tonight, and while I do still need to figure out my Song Saturday post for this week, it isn’t CRITICAL that I do so until Friday night. I did go and look through all the Song Saturdays I posted during the month of October in previous years for inspiration, though (when I wasn’t getting distracted looking at old pictures of the Chill Valicer Save and Smiler and feeling sad) – and I am seriously considering reblogging the one for Eric Dill’s “I’d Follow You” from 10/9/2021. Because apparently it gave me “Londerland Bloodlines” vibes back then, making it appropriate for Spooky Month. I’ll have to give the song another listen first, but at least I have a contender!

Other: Just wanted to shout out the Internet Archive’s collection of video game soundtracks for introducing me to another piece of video game music I love – I was listening to the Silent Hill 2 soundtrack tonight, and came across the track “Angel’s Thanatos” – one that I hadn’t heard before because it couldn’t be easily included in stuff like the “Silent Chill” compilations I used to listen to on YouTube. And it is AWESOME. :D Such immaculate dark vibes, seriously. Very glad I stumbled across it!

And there you have it, and now I have to go to bed. So things go. *nods* Night all!
