Somewhat Scattered Monday
Nov. 3rd, 2025 11:50 pmHad a few problems with distraction this evening -- brain just not cooperating like it should -- but I have powered through them and can thus present you with the daily write-up:
Work – It was a reasonably-decent first day back at work today, I’m happy to report:
A) First of all, Mom asked to borrow my car so she could see a friend, so I didn’t have to drive – Mom dropped me off and Dad picked me up, which was nice
B) Then I got in and learned I hadn’t missed anything on my day off, which was good to hear – meant I had no stressful nonsense waiting for me in my inbox or anything
C) Then I got to spend pretty much the entire morning doing the GL, as the credit card people uploaded a bunch of batches on Friday, meaning I had plenty of dollar amounts to match up across reports and make sure were correct – granted, it also took a while because the database program wasn’t working quite right this morning (I initially couldn’t get into the reports section at all), but fortunately an e-mail to our providers there got the problem fixed pretty quickly, so yay there
D) Then I spent most of the afternoon working on obituaries and related roster maintenance – wasn’t a lot of them, but I found ways to make them fill the time
E) And finally, near the end of the day, I went through all the failed credit cards to determine who needed a poke from me and who didn’t – though given the timing, I elected to hold off on sending any e-mails until tomorrow morning. I didn’t want anyone calling in right before closing with their credit card number!
So yeah – not an AMAZING Monday, but certainly not a shit one. I’ll take it. *nods*
To-Do List –
1. Get in a workout: Check – back on the bike, and back with Back To The Future and the June 2002 Bob Gale and Neil Canton commentary track! I pedaled my way through from Marty stumbling around the 1955 Town Square in shock to Doc nearly setting his garage on fire with his attempt to show Marty how they’re going to power the time machine with the lightning tonight, listening to these choice bits of trivia from Bob and Neil:
A) That brief bit with the car pulling into the gas station in 1955 and being immediately tended to by four attendants? That was the brainchild of the other Bob, Robert Zemeckis – originally they only had one gas station attendant, but Bob Z said “I have an idea” and got the costume lady to find costumes for three other guys. As per Bob G, the scene always gets a laugh, so he was definitely right to up the number of guys for that bit!
B) Billy Zane’s (aka the villainous Caledon Hockley from Titanic) first movie role was in this movie – he played Biff’s crony Matches. Well, whenever he was available, anyway – the reason only 3-D and Skinhead are in the cafeteria scene later was because Billy wasn’t able to shoot that day. (Aside: I never noticed that 3-D and Skinhead were hanging out behind Lorraine during that scene BEFORE Biff shows up! I just thought they appeared with him. It’s neat the things you notice on a rewatch!)
C) The bit with Marty catching his dad being a peeping Tom, before shoving him out of the way of an oncoming car? First bit of the movie they filmed with Eric Stoltz. And, in a burst of irony, when they were first scouting the street in Pasadena they filmed it on, Michael J. Fox was filming Teen Wolf nearby and – when he saw the scouts – wished that he could be in a Spielberg movie. XD Welp, wish granted, buddy!
D) The woman who owned the Blacker House, aka the interior of Doc’s 1955 mansion, sold the house in between when they shot there with Eric Stoltz and when they shot there with Michael J. Fox – and because they didn’t think they could get a good deal with the new owners, the crew had to beg the producer of Family Ties to let Michael out of a couple days’ rehearsals for the show so they could film before escrow went through. Fortunately he was kind enough to allow this!
E) There’s a poster in the background (EXTREME background; you see it through a doorway) when Marty’s bringing George to Lorraine to introduce them advertising a game between the Bulldogs and the Indians – these are Bob Gale’s junior high and high school sports teams (presumably football) respectively. As he put it, as the writer, he can put things in the script that the art department then has to put on a poster for him. XD
F) Bob Gale, looking for people who might be able to help with the skateboard chase sequence, ended up going to Venice Beach one day to see if any skaters were there. He quickly spotted two guys doing some pretty incredible tricks and – once they were done – went up to them, explaining that he was helping produce a movie and asking if they would be willing to help (feeling like a weirdo the whole time because he had no idea how they were going to react). To his surprise, one of them pulled out a business card and said his agent’s name was on there – turned out Bob had found Per Welinder, a skateboarding champion from Sweden, and his buddy Robert Schmelzer. Schmelzer actually became Eric’s stunt double for his version of the scene as they looked quite a bit alike – then Eric was dropped and the gang had to get a new one, Charlie Croughwell, for Michael, because, you know, much freaking shorter. XD
Good stuff again – though it is weird how often Bob and Neil go quiet during the movie! They have less to say about the behind-the-scenes stuff than I remembered. O.o Ah well, maybe tomorrow they will provide me with more interesting tidbits.
2. Work on Valicer Polyship Week 2025 stuff: Check – having completed all the rough drafts, it’s now time to circle back around and start polishing them up! Accordingly, I edited my Day Three Modern AU story, “Sharing Clothes,” about how Smiler thinks it’s a shame that they can’t share clothes with Victor and Alice (thanks to their strongly-differing body types) – only for Victor to realize at the end that his tie should fit Smiler nicely. :p Thus starting a habit of them swapping neckwear! This one fought me for quite a while, especially the beginning – I just could not figure out how to start it for the longest time – but I kept at it, and it all came together in the end, fortunately. Especially after I added in some references to Smiler’s friends to help explain why the topic was on their mind in the first place. Hopefully the others won’t be so hard to clean up!
3. Watch something on FreeTube/Invidious: No check – between how long it took me to edit “Sharing Clothes” above, and looking at all the comments over here and realizing how long it was going to take me to answer all THEM too, I quickly realized I simply wasn’t going to have the time to watch anything. :( Which is a shame, as I still have three longer OXBoxtra videos to watch – and I’d love to get back to watching Proxy Gate Tactician’s stuff if I can. Really hoping I can get to something tomorrow!
4. Get my tumblr queues sorted: Substitution check – rather than doing anything with Victor Luvs Alice (N Smiler)’s queue today, I instead just straight-up reblogged a few things tonight:
A) My friend nebbychan’s belated Halloween picture of “Dan”kenstein (Sir Daniel’s skull head atop a stitched-together Frankenstein body) and his “bride” Kiya (with her hair down and sporting a light blue streak, in a lovely long white dress, sitting on his flexed arm and flexing her own), along with some bonus reference sketches of the Frankenstein body – even if it’s a fandom I’m not really in, I do enjoy her artwork! Plus friends just reblog friends~
B) A post by xxinkys-ocsxx claiming to be normal about the character before thinking about them WAAAAY more than a normal person would – I was just like “this is a mood, even if for me it’s generally THREE characters”
C) A post by worldwright going “yay bedtime!” and snuggling up in bed to think about their faves being tortured – again, I was like “mood – at least it’s not every night? ^^;” XD
D) A post by pisces-core showing off a bunch of colorful butterfly- and moth-themed rugs – I saw this and was like “oh cripes, Victor would LOVE these” :D One definitely has to be in the Modern AU!Valicer house
E) And a thread featuring some fanart of everyone’s favorite detective Columbo as a moth-man (as in, mostly Columbo but with fuzzy antennae, wings, and an extra set of arms), dealing with things like being trapped under a cup, by bagel-bird-ainsor, followed by elodieunderglass talking about him offering to show someone a picture of his wife (who is often mentioned but never seen), and the hypothetical viewer getting all excited to see what she actually looks like – only for him to pull out a picture of the moon XD – I looked at that and though “oh, thesatiricaldemon should like this, I know he’s a Columbo fan,” so I reblogged it and tagged his name –
And he reblogged it a short time later, stating “I won't say how [line break] but that isn't too far off.” Presumably regarding the joke about Columbo’s wife and the Moon, which has really got me going ???? I really hope he comes out with another chapter of “Beneath A Broken Sky” soon, because I now have all the questions. :P
And there we have it! And now I should really try to get to bed earlier than I did last night. Because sleep is a thing I still actually need and all. Night all!
