A Much Quieter Friday
Jan. 10th, 2020 11:44 pmPhew -- yeah, today wasn't nearly as stressful, thankfully. Decent rides in and out of work, and work itself was pretty quiet. A few calls back from the people we were contacting, a few questions to ask, but mostly I worked on sorting out duplicates one of the parishes had sent back. Some were easy, some were hard, good mix of both to keep me going. Also there was still leftover cake, so I had some. XD
Actually, it was very appropriate for me to eat cake today, as it's a friend's birthday -- Happy birthday
anonymoose_au! As per usual, I have written something for you: a direct sequel to your Christmas fic! Very direct, in fact -- it picks up a few minutes after the previous one left off. And hey, this one has more George in it, you should like that, right?
"How's it going over there?"
"It's – going," Doc replied, leaning on Marty as they completed another circuit of the lake. "At the very least, we have achieved five minutes of me not falling on my ass."
George laughed, skating up beside them. "Hey, five minutes is nothing to sneeze at! You should be proud of yourself."
"I'd be prouder if I didn't need to use your son as a walker."
"Don't worry about it, Doc," Marty said, smirking up at him. "My spine hasn't telescoped yet."
"Seriously, you're fine," George assured him. "I was all over Lorraine when we first started skating together."
Doc raised an eyebrow. "In the 'I need help maintaining my balance' sense, or in the 'you're a very attractive woman and that's why I'm out here' sense?"
"Little from – actually, a lot from Column A, little from Column B," George said, rubbing the back of his head. "Point is, I know what a battle maintaining your balance on these things is sometimes." He slid a little closer, offering his shoulder. "Here – want to take a turn with me? Give poor Marty's shoulder a break?"
"I probably should," Doc said, shifting his weight onto George with exaggerated care. "If only because my back's starting to complain from being hunched over so much."
"Hey!"
"Nothing personal, Marty," Doc told him, doing his best to bite back a smile. "I know it's not your fault. I'd call it 'luck of the genetic dice,' except that in your case, they seem to be rigged."
"Yeah, I noticed that myself when you did that family scrapbook back in the spring," George said, pulling Doc along as they started on the next loop. "Great-Grandpa and Grandpa looking almost exactly like Marty, then my own dad looks pretty much exactly like me. . .it's – kinda creepy, honestly."
"Not as creepy as looking back at Great-Great-Grandma Maggie and realizing she looks a lot more like Mom than I thought," Marty said, making a face.
"You know we don't discuss that, Marty."
"Freud would have a field day," Doc said, now unable to help a grin. "But it is pretty fascinating. Genetics may not be my specialty, but I know the odds of so many male members of the family looking that similar are pretty high. I mean, obviously other genes sneak in from time to time – as aptly demonstrated by Dave over there – but it seems to be a given that at least one son will fit one of the two most common types – and in a strict pattern, no less."
"Yeah." George glanced left and right, then leaned in. "Look, I know I'm not supposed to ask for spoilers, but – I gotta know. Marty, do – do I get a grandson?"
Marty glanced at Doc, who nodded. "Yeah – and he looks just like me," he confirmed. "Guess it's not really a surprise."
George pumped a fist. "Knew it!"
"Yeah, the surprise is that your granddaughter looks just like me too."
George jerked to a stop, eyes wide. "My – ooof!"
Abruptly he was sprawled across the ice, Doc half across him. Marty laughed and took the opportunity to escape, sailing over to his mother. "You get back here, kid!" George cried. "You can't just leave me on that!"
"He can and he has," Doc told him, pushing himself up. "Ooof. . .guess it at least doesn't count as landing on my ass. . .what you get for wanting to know more than you're supposed to, George."
"I know, I know, space-time continuum and all that, but – granddaughter?" He stared up at Doc. "And like Marty?"
"You'll find out in due time, George," Doc said, wagging a finger. "In the meantime, how about we get up before we end up going through the ice and really changing the future?"
-->In which a birthday fic for a friend turns into me taking a poke at the weirdness of McFly genetics as shown by every piece of the BTTF universe except the original movie. XD I wasn't sure where to go with this at first -- I'd pretty much covered "Marty trying to teach Doc how to skate, and Doc is very bad at it" in the Christmas fic, so I didn't want to go down that route again. So I decided to just bring George over and let them talk. . .and well, this resulted. So we can officially say the Telltale Game is canon to this verse now. XD What can I say, I still like that goofy thing! Not to mention, it tickles me to have George in on the secret of the time machine. Especially when I can do stuff like this with it. What you get for asking for spoilers, George! XD Anyway, hope you like!
In other news:
-->Watched a variety of fun things on the YouTubes today, including:
A) Jay catching up on the latest Yandere Simulator news, and telling people that the reason he isn't playing the game so much on his channel these days isn't because he's stopped liking it, but because there's not a lot for him to actually see that's new. Also he thinks YandereDev just needs to release Osana, even if she's buggy, but he gets that it's YanDev's game and there's no changing his mind. (Personally, I think YanDev has become obsessed with his game being "perfect," Osana in particular, and it's not doing good things for the development, but then again I only follow this thing in fits and spurts because I think Jay's videos on it are funny.)
B) GrayStillPlays Hemilia's Borders, a Papers, Please rip-off that includes supernatural powers to see what people are really thinking, what they're carrying, if they're truly evil or good, immediately arrest them, or immediately pardon them. We got a lot of weirdos at the door, that's for dang sure. XD Gray made sure to let them all in, abusing the hell out of the "pardon" function. Though I think my favorite moment was him getting completely weirded out by encountering a truly normal person -- no dark secrets or anything -- and letting them in out of confusion. XD
C) GrayStillPlays Air Marty -- YEEESSS MOOORE XD This episode was about equal parts Marty wrecking other people's lives (befriending an air marshal only to end up distracting him from a bombing attempt; killing everyone else on the plane because he failed CPR) and Marty's own life getting wrecked (if he SUCCEEDS in the CPR, the guy accuses him of sexual assault and Marty ends up homeless; if Marty gets killed by the air marshal he can be denied heaven by his wife chasing his disembodied soul). I don't know if we've seen EVERY ending yet (according to the game description on Gray's video, there's SIXTY-FOUR), but the ones I have seen are works of hilarious beauty. XD
D) CallMeKevin plays the Resident Evil 2 30-minute demo -- yeah, I'm late to the party on this video, but I spotted it in my Recommendeds and decided to give it a shot. It's always amusing to watch Kevin play a horror game because -- despite doing his best to act like the worst person in the world in other games -- he's genuinely unnerved by horror stuff, and was clearly pretty tense during a lot of the demo. Dude just missed meeting the licker, and boy did he sound relieved. XD I gotta give his Resident Evil 7 video a watch too, it's one of his longer ones. . .
E) CallMeKevin -- thanks his audience for watching him and gives us all an update on his life! Yeah, he decided he wanted to make a more personal video for the beginning of the year, and very sweetly thanked us for all the support, said that he was genuinely surprised but pleased that one of the worst incidents of his life (getting hit by a car) lead to something that gives him such joy, and that he's glad he can help people through his videos. He's -- a genuinely sweet guy, from what I can see, and I like him. :)
-->Got my Valice Multiverse queue sorted, and worked some more on that headcanon meme I was tagged in -- hoping to get it done this weekend! Just gets a little more complicated when you're doing two people instead of one. . .
-->Plans for Saturday: Get the cleaning done; catch up on OXBox/OXtra videos (I have two "top moments" lists, including the "Best of Hitman" list :D Plus a regular list video and a Hitman 2 escalation); play Bloodlines. A doable list, I feel -- besides, I want to get through the Fu Syndicate and do some Mandarin murderin'. :p
And now I have to finish answering comments before heading off to do the Friday Night Writing Thing! *nods* Night all!
