A Good Productive Saturday

Yeah, no complaints here -- got up around 10, had my smoothie for breakfast, then got to work on the to-do list:
1. Clean my room (as it is a Cleaning Saturday): Check! Took me the better part of the day (with a long lunch break due to a new 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown my mom wanted to watch), but it’s done for another couple of weeks.
2. Play Sims 4, finish off the Liddell-Van Dort cycle of the Newcrest Save: Check! I went back to Newcrest and – just for something to do – had Victor and Alice host a Black And White Bash at the Von Haunt Estate in Windenburg! Unfortunately, the huge size of the lot and its surrounding gardens and various glitchiness made the whole thing hard to handle – guests kept wandering off to far-away corners, one of the people specifically invited for the party wasn’t listed as a guest, so talking to him about black-and-white things did nothing, and for some reason the “have Sims listen to Classical at the same time” goal never completed despite me forming a group with the guests and having everyone listen to the phonograph I added. o.O Fortunately, Alice making some drinks and her and Victor managing to talk to their two “official” guests (alien Justina and Eric Embers) about stuff like zebras and newspapers got the party to Bronze level, which awarded them a free charisma booklet. XD At least it wasn’t a total failure! And they both got the chance to drink from their guests with permission, so yay there. Victor also caught some nice new fish at the pond behind their house, and Alice did some leveling up of her piano skill. Not too bad a day in Sim-land, honestly!
3. Watch the latest Atop The Fourth Wall, Red Plumbob, and Plumbella videos in my Watch Later, and Kevin and Gray in my Subscriptions: Checked, but with a substitution; see below –
A) Started with Linkara and AT4W, and “DC Challenge #2!” For context, this is the second issue of that weird round-robin story DC did with some of its writers and artists, where each issue was made by a different creative team, trying to pick up and run with the story the previous team had gone with. First issue featured people getting possessed, Superman getting beaten up on the moon, Adam Strange apparently robbing people, Wonder Woman looking for a stolen nuclear device, Bogart and Groucho Marx coming back to life, and the revelation that Batman isn’t a VHS guy – he likes Betamax. XD Also it ended with the revelation that the Beta tape sent to Batman was probably the nuclear device Wondy’s looking for, and it was going to explode in eight seconds! This issue has Batman resolve that by cutting the power to his house (and most of the rest of Gotham) via slicing some power cables – in considerably MORE than eight seconds, given he and the bad guy exchange a few words before he does so, but comic book time. *shrug* The rest of the issue deals with more weirdness – two animal-themed superheroes (one who was considered a mite racist even for the time because of his name – a “white savior” character who can command animals and even COMBINE them as necessary with a name that means “Master-Beast,” eeep) having to team up to save everyone as a Manticore explodes from the ground in a zoo to battle a Djinn; an Old West hero, Jonah Hex, getting transported to the present by a magic tablet, and then getting kidnapped by Peter Lorre (yes really) and the guy Batman was fighting; the revelation that Aquaman has ended up in the middle of a giant desert; and Superman managing to defeat his moon foe, only to find a symbol left behind referencing someone who should be dead. Oh, and this issue’s cliffhanger is Jonah, having knocked out and/or shot his kidnappers, finding himself wondering how the hell you drive a car while it careens out of control towards some schoolkids and some nuns. Not as tense as a nuclear explosion set to take out Gotham, but still. Good, wacky stuff!
B) Then I hit up Red Plumbob’s latest comparison – unique woohoo spots in Sims 2, Sims 3, and Sims 4! And let me tell you, Sims 3 has a LOOOT of woohoo spots. You can woohoo in most of the rabbit holes, in hot air balloons (if you bought them off the store), in gondolas (ditto), while using jetpacks, in a time machine (and if you try for a baby, your kid may later emerge FROM said time machine). . .the list just keeps going on! Sims 4 is starting to catch up, though – mostly through animation reuse, it must be said. But to be fair, I’m strangely fond of coffin woohoo, so I find myself not minding when bits of that animation are reused. XD
C) Moved onto Plumbella once again touting how awesome The Sims 2 is – squeeing over the introduction, checking out one of the maps you could use to make your own neighborhood briefly, then using the Dreamer family to show off how the game actually has difficulty and consequences! (Admittedly, as proven by my own play session today, The Sims 4 occasionally has difficulty too. . .) She got Dirk into private school, sent Darren off to buy food and clothes (giggling over how all the games you could buy were just EA shilling itself), then had him call the exterminator and the adoption service, adopting a daughter into the family and getting all nostalgic over some of the cuter interactions (like kids dancing on their parent’s feet). :) Really makes ME miss that game – I had some good times in it. We seriously need a Sims game that has the CAS/Build-Buy of Sims 4, the gameplay of Sims 2 and the best bits of Sims 1 and Sims 3 sprinkled on top. You’ve got a lot to live up to, Paralives!
D) And here is today’s YouTube Curveball – to my surprise, James Turner was in my Subscriptions, with another episode of “3 Brothers!” It being Sims Saturday, I figured I ought to watch that. And what a rollercoaster of a ride it was, with good old James looking for quick ways to make money so Isaiah could travel to Selvadorada and get cured of his poisoning! (Yes, he could have gone on the computer to order an antidote, but where’s the fun in that? Also, I think the antidote is super-expensive that way. . .) This involved a quick jaunt to Brindleton Bay’s island to check out the pet cemetery (as someone suggested the family should get a ghost cat – also, this is going to be our Paranormal Stuff LP too, as James wants to make their awful house haunted on top of everything else) and score some plasma, then a trip to Sulani to do some odd jobs (causing mischief on the beach and catching frogs from a waterfall). With cash in hand, Isaiah traveled down to a one-day trip to Selvadorada –
Where he and James learned he needed bone dust to get the antidote from the locals. Cue James getting him the bat ability so he could teleport across the jungle and do the temple puzzles. He didn’t have great luck figuring them out – but that actually worked out in his favor, as one of them covered him in the bone dust he needed! James had him do the entire temple anyway, just for funsies, then sent him back to the market to get cured. And so Isaiah came home, purged of poison, with about $2,500 in pocket (along with some treasures), and ready to take a nice hot shower. XD James asked us who should get the focus next episode – I suggested Brodie, so he could do some Snowy Adventure stuff and actually give the pack some love. And I added that Candle should be the “paranormal expert” of the family, since that’s something for him to focus on beyond just good grades and university. (Would be cool if they added a class for the new “Medium” skill to Britechester and Foxbury, in fact. . .)
E) After that, I looked at my options and decided Kevin would have to wait until tomorrow – let’s keep up with GrayStillPlays and his Happy Wheels adventures! Which – included one jet wall board that I KNOW I saw in a previous episode. o.O But it also included more mental bottle flips (Put the bottle in the woman’s lap? Congratulations, your progeny fall from the sky to be flipped!), more mental bottle runs (including one where Gray was yeeted onto a mega-slope – fortunately sliding down was the way to win; also a bottle run where your character is in a bottle vehicle running over hobos XD), and another “based on Gray’s thumbnails” board (Segway Man had to jump over rockets to reach the finish line; Gray found it a pain in his ass). Worst board was apparently a pogo jump that looked deceptively simple, but filled your ass with arrows while providing a VERY narrow window to victory. Poor Gray struggled with THAT one for a while! But, as usual, masochism beat all. Good times!
So yes, five videos watched, but we had an extra Sims video instead of Kevin. Still pretty good!
4. Write on "Londerland Bloodlines" and see if I can finish it: Check! A little under a page of Alice rushing home and accidentally bumping into the Cabbie and his cab (getting a bit of a weird vibe off him in the process), and a couple of quick edits to the epilogue in Bertram’s POV, and the “Santa Monica’s Deluded Depths” portion of “Londerland Bloodlines” is complete! :D *throws confetti* Yes, again, it’s only the first draft, but after 178 pages and 126,173 words, it feels good to have anything on this epic wrapped up for a bit. XD Now we just let it percolate for a bit before starting editing. . .
Add in catching up with my various webcomics, watching some "Postmodern Jukebox" videos (had to see Wayne Brady sing 1930s Jazz-style "Thriller"), and a busy evening on Valice Multiverse, and you have a pretty busy Saturday, all told! But it felt good to get all that accomplished -- especially that last one. :D w00, two first drafts in the can! Now I just have to find something to keep myself occupied while I let them sit for a bit before editing begins. XD
Anyway -- don't want to hang around here too long, as there's lots of threads hopping on Valice Multiverse at the moment, and I have stuff to reply to on here as well. Let's get up the list for Sunday and get going!
1. Watch the three OXBox/OXtra lists in my Watch Later, the two Call Me Kevin videos in my Subscriptions, and Jon's Fallout 4 YOLO episode
2. Play Fallout 4 and see what progress I can make in my save
3. Work on my Valice Multiverse "information document" update
4. Get in a workout
Again, this seems reasonable for a Sunday. Hopefully it all comes together without a hitch. *thumbs up* Night all!
