Power Outages
Jul. 28th, 2005 10:04 pmYesterday we were hit with a short but severe thunderstorm. Result -- power knocked out for a few minutes, cable knocked out for the rest of the night (unfortunately Jules's special wiring couldn't fix the problem). On the plus side, I've completed Chapter 1 of "Teen Doc."
-TD: That's good news at least.-
Started "Thunderbolts and Lightning" as well, my
backtothefanfic challenge fic.
-H: Even better.-
Yeah, I know. Looking forward to the August challenge.
On the minus side, apparently being without net last night has led me to slightly overdose on "Girl Genius." Which means comic!Boy Genius resurgence, which I really can't do. :(
-H: *patpat* Enough that you're thinking about it.-
-OD: *tentacles patpat* Yes, it's always good to have you considering art projects.-
I know, but my drawing skills aren't up to accurately portraying the images in my head. *sigh* I need something like a brainprinter.
-TD: Brainprinter?-
Yeah, like maybe hooking up my Lexmark to some mind-reading device.
-TD: Yeah. Perhaps -- perhaps we could cannibalize the 1955 mind-reading device, and search for a way --
. . .
What the HELL just happened to my voice?-
*headdesk* I KNEW this would happen. . . . All those "Boy Genius" thoughts apparently made YOU into a spark.
-E: A what?-
Spark: (n.) "Girl Genius" term. Refers to a) the quality that creates a Mad Scientist (see Madboy, Madgirl) -- the drive to invent, to create, to improve b) the Mad Scientist him/herself -- "You would say someone is a Spark if they have the Spark.
-D: Basically, you turned our younger self into a certain kind of mad scientist.-
Basically.
-D: . . . Well, he's already blown up a fusion generator. What difference will this make?-
-TD: I've apologized for that 10 times!-
-VM: *pats TeenDoc on shoulder* They're only messing with ya, kid.-
-M2: You gotta remember, they're YOUR older selves. They're just as nuts as you are.-
:D Surrounded by mad scientists. I love it.
-VD: *rolls eyes*-
On the Sims Front: Yesterday was a Strangetown day. I played some more of the Weasleys (Harry Potter mood). Since for the first time I hadn't really focused on schoolwork, it was time to play some catch-up. The Weasley's obliged me, doing assignments:

And earning skills:

I ended up springing for an extra easel for that. Percy even put the pedal to the metal and wrote a term paper.

George also called Professor Ted Kim to schmooze up his grade a little. However, all turned out well -- Percy and Fred ended up getting A+s on their freshman "midterm", and even George got an A-. Percy will continue to get A+s, while I'm going to stay in the A- range for Fred and George. I set them to work earning new skills and keeping green. However, I think after freshman year, I'll be getting them their own private house. After playing the Von Braun residence, dorms are ruined for me. Too many people wandering around. (And those new arcade games! I sold the one in the Weasley dorm, it was driving me CRAZY!)
After sending the boys to bed, I hopped into the main Strangetown neighborhood and played a day of the Clayton-Lloyds. I got better headshots of all the Lloyd girls for my webpage. After school and work, Jennifer had Marty over, while the adults had Doc over. Josie also ended up bringing home a new friend, Holly Andersen. Jennifer and Marty did lots of mushy stuff, much to the embarrasment of their adult friends:

Seriously, it really amuses me that adult Sims get embarrassed by teenagers. Jennifer then did her homework while Josie befriended Holly and the girls buttered up Doc.

After getting Josie and Gypsy's aspirations up, I had everyone de-age back to the beginning of their life stages, had Josie chat up Clara and Jennifer (she has the lowest scores with her new roomies), then sent Clara to work and everyone else to bed. Jennifer's cell ended up waking everyone, so Gypsy turned to studying mechanical while the others went back to sleep.
-J: You think Sims would deactivate their cellphone when going to sleep.-
I know. Luckily I haven't had that problem yet with either Emily or Marty.
Today it was the Hill Valley Browns for Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday, the family managed to eat breakfast together again, then the kids were off to school and Clara to work. Doc called up Marty and chatted with him, then did some greening, skill-building, and napping before going to work. Clara came home with Christie, whom I immediately said goodbye too -- bringing her home gave her enough off a relationship boost. Kendal stayed long enough to serve gelatin. Switching between floors, I happened to notice the kids' computer was broken. I had Clara call a repairman -- or, in this case, a repairwoman -- who promised to stop by tomorrow. In the meantime, everyone ate gelatin, and the adults painted:

Then, once the kids were safely in bed, it was time for another woo-hoo session. I saved, let them get at it--
AND HEARD THE BABY MUSIC!
I could have jumped for joy, seriously! Finally!
-VD2: Yes! See, just took a little time. And I'm sure our Sim selves enjoyed all the woo-hoo.-
Yes, yes. Anyway, Doc woke up early on Thursday, so I had him stargaze. He and Clara gobbled down the rest of the gelatin -- the kids are rarely hungry in the mornings anyway. Once everyone else had left, Doc applied himself to the chessboard while Arcadia the repairwoman stopped by and fixed the computer:

Clara came home with a much-needed promotion, Jules and Verne with Brittany Parker. Clara got some groceries delivered (didn't want to drag everyone to a community lot) and ended Kendal's services -- after all, she'll be staying home for a while with the new baby. Doc came home, and everyone had supper -- the kids baking themselves muffins while Doc and Clara both had spaghetti. Clara retired early, while Doc called up Joey and made best friends over the phone. Finally, at around midnight on Friday night, Clara got her first bump. I had Doc talk to the new baby Sim:

Sims are SO cute about that. Then it was bed for Doc, and a cookie stuffing for Clara.
-VD: Do you plan to make sure it's a girl Sim, or will you just let nature take its course?-
Not sure yet -- I'd love baby Martina, but I kinda feel like I'm predjudiced towards girl Sims now. Maybe I should hope for a set of twins. :p
-TD: *sparky again* Can I work on the brainprinter idea? I promise not to blow anything up.-
Only if one of your older selves supervises. Accidents do happen.
-DW: Does it count if I go? I don't get to work with my hands much. I may be a anthromorph, but I'm still Dr. Emmett Brown.-
Heh, okay. Have fun you two.
-D: *calling* No touching the DeLoreans!-
