crossover_chick: gif with Doc and Marty trying to get out of being written into twisted AUs (Default)

First time I'll hear BTTF Part III with either commentary.
-VD: You know, the Bob and Neil commentaries suggest to listen to the other one first.-
I know, but I think I'll be able to keep up. I'll save the next set of commentaries for another weekend. Ready-made excuse for a marathon.
-VDM: What you should do is watch them on Emmett's birthday, if you can.-
Say, that's an idea. *checks calendar* Yup, October 22nd is a Sunday this year. I'll probably schedule another marathon then and watch Part II (my favorite) on that day.
-TD: *grin* Works for me.-
-VD2: Us too. But how goes fan fiction?-
Actually, I've got another Drabbles88 done:

50. Choices
God, his hand hurt.
Marty glared down at the appendage, currently swathed in bandages. He couldn’t believe this had happened to him. He was supposed to become a great rock star, damn it! Not bust his hand up in a stupid auto accident! Marty sighed deeply. All those hopes, dreams, years of practice -- all for nothing. Now he was just a kid with a bum hand and a possible criminal record. It just wasn’t fair.
His thoughts drifted to the package lying hidden under his bed. He still couldn’t believe he’d managed to slip that thing past Doc. Then again, his friend had been pretty preoccupied, what with Jennifer almost getting caught by the police. It had been a simple matter to hide it under the seat before Doc saw, then sneak it home. He hadn’t used it yet, but now that his rock star dreams were all but gone. . . .
Immediately Doc’s voice came on inside his head, telling him that it would be wrong to use future knowledge to change his destiny. Oh, shut up, Marty told it. You did the same thing with my letter! I don’t want much. Just a nice life for me and Jennifer. A chance to make things better.
A quote popped into his head: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. With Doc’s time machine disabled, he had absolute power over the space-time continuum. What if he made things worse? What if he turned into an asshole on par with Biff Tannen?
I’ll be careful, he told himself. I’ll only make small bets here and there. Just enough to keep me above water. The rest of the time, I’ll keep it locked away. Marty nodded. I’m gonna use that Sports Almanac.
***

Marty dropped the Almanac into the flames. He and Doc watched as it burned away. “That’s it,” Marty said. “No more bets.”
“No more bets,” Doc nodded. He looked sternly at Marty. “I’m still a little annoyed you smuggled this back to the past.”
“Hey, Doc, it all worked out, right? Jennifer and I didn’t get married in Las Vegas, I’ve got a nice trust fund for emergencies, and I’m still working with music.”
“True. I have to admit, I’m impressed with how responsibly you handled this information. I fully expected you to go on a gambling spree and turn into a high roller.”
“Yeah, well, I didn’t want to end up like that. All I wanted was to keep my future from going completely down the crapper.” He sighed. “I’ve got a good job and a decent house. All that remains is to make sure Marty Junior doesn’t turn into a George clone.” He looked up at Doc with a slight smile. “I’m glad I was able to help you out along the way. Must be nice having an actual house.”
“I appreciate it,” Doc admitted. “Even if I don’t entirely approve of the circumstances.”
“Well, too late for that now. All luck from this point on.” Marty nodded to himself. Yeah. He’d made the right choice.

This one is really [livejournal.com profile] foxywriter's fault. During a recent rereading of "No Place Like Home," I got to thinking. One of the realities Doc and Marty visit is one where Marty kept the sports almanac and basically turned into a version of Biff Tannen using it (to the point of trying to bump off Doc). I couldn't help but wonder if there might be a flip side to that equation. A world where Marty would end up using the almanac responsibly. I finally managed to fit it into the drabbles88 format, so here it is.
-M: I like your version better than hers.-
Well, of course you would, you're not a heartless jerk in this version.
-M2: What ARE the rules for the Drabbles88 challenge?-
For me? No fic can be under 88 words or over 500. This one's 500 exactly. I think the previous one about Doc marrying Jill, If, was also exactly 500.
-MF: Under 88?-
It's a Drabbles88, not a drabbles100. Besides, I already have one fic that's 88 words, so why not use it as the benchmark?
-MF: Good point.-

I've also gotten my half-page of "The Gift and the Curse" done -- gonna try to finish off the chapter. And yesterday I got the "V.D." stuff up and started some MartySprite doodles.
-OD: Not bad, not bad at all.-
-VD: I agree. Though I hope you've moved onto Chapter 2 with my story.-
Yes. I'm also highly tempted to just slap "Boy Genius" Chapter 7 up and ask the community what it thinks -- I seem to have a mental block against editing it.
-TD: I don't know about that, you've changed some bits around.-
I know, I know, but I still worry about character reactions. Though I think I do a good Krosp. I hope I do a good Krosp, anyway.
-E: Aww, I like Krosp.-
-H: The only part of our lives she's NOT freaked out by.-
LOL, I know. Maybe I'll get Simyou a cat once Pets comes out.
-E: I'd like that!-
-TD: As long as Chapter 7's up by the end of the month.-
It will, as well as the still-titleless "August Challenge."
-DW: No luck at all?!-
Nope! I even asked [livejournal.com profile] martyfan and [livejournal.com profile] anonymoose_au, but nothing they came up with seemed to fit. All of them seemed too comedic, and the August challenge is fairly serious. Humph, stupid thing.
. . . WHOA, WAIT A MINUTE!
-RPD: What? What is it?-
I might have something! A working title at any rate! The Bon Jovi song "Shot Through the Heart" just started playing in my head, and -- well, it WORKS, doesn't it? Marty's shot in the chest, and Doc's feeling pretty damn awful. . . . YES! I LOVE these random moments of inspiration! *dances*
-VD2: *raises glass* Cheers!-
*beams*
-RPD: Don't forget to mention the [livejournal.com profile] revison_doc updates.-
Oh, yes. The Furkin went on an extremely successful double date -- Calvin and Suzy are in love now, as are Everett and Jenny. And Cupid struck the McFly/Robinson house as well -- April's in love with Dave now. They make a rather nice couple, honestly.
-D: :) That's sweet.-
I know. I like April and Dave a lot. And Linda's now a Pleasure Sim -- it remains to be seen how this will affect her relationship with Nery. They're not gonna get married or anything, but I plan on them remaining lovers.
And now, back to the grind.
-RPD: Grind? You're rereading the RPG.-
Back to procrastinating on the grind.
-D: That's more like it.-

Your version is better. :)

I greatly respect Kristen Sheley, and No Place Like Home is one my favourite stories by her. However, I have found it a bit disturbing how Marty turned out in some of those realities. I can't imagine Marty ever being corrupt enough to try to kill someone.

Heh, thanks. She did put him through the wringer a few times, didn't she? Then again, when you've got that sort of power on-hand. . . .
