Pixar has continued their streak of pure awesome -- "Up" is a good movie. It's funny and sad and all sorts of heartwarming. :D And it's awesome seeing it in 3-D.
-VD: It's amazing that they haven't had a box office failure yet.-
I know. Even "Cars" has a 75% "Fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and that's their lowest-rated movie. The one I'm worrying about is "Toy Story 3." I liked the first two, but the third movie is generally where the sequels really screw it up. Fingers crossed, folks.
Anyway, the movie was good, even though I came close to not being able to see it. This is what happened -- I arrived at the mall, wandered around Newberry Comics and Hot Topic for a bit, then grabbed a sandwich at Subway before heading up to the theater.
Only to find both the Cinemas 16 and the IMAX next door CLOSED UP. Metal curtain-doors and everything. Mind you, this is shortly before 11:00 A.M., so I'm thinking "what the everloving fuck. . . ."
A couple of other people come by and note the closed doors. There's an open employee's-only door nearby -- I keep peeking inside, trying to figure out what's going on. Finally an employee comes out and assures us they'll be opening soon. A few minutes later, they finally open the doors and let us in. Then we have to wait a few more minutes for them to fix the registers. By this point, I'm pretty pissed off, since it's closing in on the show's start time. I get my ticket and glasses, get a drink and a box of Sno-Caps, and go in search of Theater 11.
Which I can't find. The hallways have little electronic signs showing roughly where the theaters are located, but it goes straight from 10 to 13. I wander around for a bit, trying to locate it (and having to clean up my overflowing Pepsi), until finally the sign changes and I find theater 11. After that things were okay, but SHEESH!
After the movie was over, I visited Dave and Buster's for a bit (they have Guitar Hero arcade games there -- I completely FAILED at it), then headed back to Newberry for one last look-around. I ended up getting myself a pair of purple-striped fingerless gloves -- just because I like the look -- and TERMINATOR 2 MINIMATES.
I'm serious. T2 Minimates. A battle-wrecked T-800 (whose legs are orange for some reason) and a battle-damaged T-1000. T-800 comes with a gun, T-1000 comes with both a regular hand and a "metal spike finger" hand, and a separate "mercury splooge" body and surprised head from that moment he got the grenade fired in him, right before he fell in the pit of "lava."
-D: They really WILL make Minimates out of anything, won't they?-
They will! I just gotta figure out where to put Arnie and Austin -- maybe they can live with the Marvel Mates.
Anyway, that was my day. Go see "Up" if you can, it really is good. Now we have to go see "Transfomers: Revenge of the Fallen" at some point. . . .
