Drabbles88 Time!
Sep. 27th, 2009 10:09 pmYes, I have a fic to present to you all -- and it's even BTTF-themed! Amazing, isn't it? :p
-D: Absolutely incredible, really.-
-TTV: I didn't MEAN to take over.-
*giggle* It's okay, Victor. Anyway, I first had this thought back at the beginning of the month, but it took me a little while to get it just right. (Not to mention I kind of got distracted for a bit by other projects. ^^;) But here it is for you to enjoy:
43. When?
There was a brilliant flash – and suddenly, it was a lot darker outside.
Marty promptly stopped the car and looked around. He was still at the drive-in theater, only the place looked long-abandoned now. The bright colors had faded, the posters were gone, and the screens were ripped and rotting from the elements. He looked back at Current Time display on the panel.
OCTOBER 26TH, 1985, 11:00 P.M.
He was home. He’d missed out on his date with Jennifer, but he was finally home. Marty let out a deep, relieved sigh. He was finally back in his own time.
He really thought he’d feel happier about this. It felt good to be back where he belonged, sure, but – it felt almost – bittersweet, for some reason. Wasn’t this what he had wanted all along? To be home, in his normal reality? One where Jennifer was safe and sound (damn, he really had to go check on her), one where Biff Tannen wasn’t in charge of the entire town, one where his parents were both alive and happy, one where his siblings had good, successful lives, one where –
One where Doc was around. . . .
Marty sighed deeply, feeling a sharp pang in his heart. He was never going to see his best friend again. Doc was gone – stuck in 1885. Sure, that letter had said he was happy, and the Doc of 1955 had seemed quite enthusiastic about the idea of living his years out in the Old West, but – that didn’t change the fact that he and Marty were separated now by a century of time. There’d be no more skateboarding or driving over to Doc’s place to see the latest invention. There’d be no more grabbing burgers and shakes from the Burger King next door. There’d be no more wacky adventures, no more breathtaking discoveries. No more – fun.
Get a hold of yourself, McFly, Marty told himself sternly. Doc said he was happy. You didn’t see anything that said he wasn’t. And he always wanted to visit the Old West – he got his wish. Now you have to destroy the time machine, like he said. One alternate hell world is enough!
Marty looked back at the flux capacitor, still fluxing in the back. For a minute, he contemplated just doing the deed right here and now. Find a nice heavy rock and slam it as hard as he could into the contraption. That would immediately render the DeLorean useless as a time machine. Then he could drive home, stop by to see Jennifer, make sure everything was back to normal, and get back to his life.
His nice, boring, now-best-friendless life.
Marty stared at the flux capacitor for a long moment. Then he shook his head and smiled, before turning around and putting the car into gear. He had to check on Jennifer, then get home and get some sleep. And tomorrow (or maybe Monday after school – he might need a day to really recover), he’d grab a cowboy costume from one of the clothing stores and head back to 1885.
If Doc seriously thought Marty was going to just leave him there, after all they’d been through together. . .well, he wasn’t as smart as he looked, then.
-TD: *amused* Advancing the "no way Marty would have left him there" theory?-
Basically. As you probably guessed, this is an AU universe where Marty and Doc55 never saw Doc85's tombstone, so Marty just went back to 1985 as planned. I seriously don't think Marty could have just left him back there for good. At the very least, he'd want to visit.
-M: Yeah, exactly. We're best friends -- I ain't leaving in stranded in the Old West for the rest of his life.-
-VD2: Though this does bring up the point that this Doc and Marty don't know about Buford. . . .-
Yes, but hopefully this Marty can avoid ripping the fuel line. It all depends, really.
-VM: I say he goes back to the future first and gets the hover conversion back. Also better door locks.-
*snork* Exactly.
The snarkings I'll post tomorrow -- don't know if anyone but me will find them funny, but hey, might as well.
-RPD: Get anything else done?-
Yes, Steve and Gary got their thread in the Nexus. Captain John came over to say "hi," of course. I should really have them update their LJ now -- they're out of Aperture Science for good as of this post. Chell blew up GLaDOS and the institute -- I'm not sure what happens at the end, honestly, other than Chell getting sucked outside. Point is, they're out and they're just staying in the Nexus.
-VD: Should I be the one to point out they technically died at the end of their video?-
Pretend it's another one of my AUs. You know I love them.
All right, I'm feeling kind of dragged out here (stupid period), so I'll say good night for now.

Date: 2009-09-30 08:11 pm (UTC)Good drabble!
Date: 2009-09-29 02:43 pm (UTC)I had that same idea.
It wasn't exactly the same - it included Marty changing his mind for undecided reasons at the Drive-In, going to 1985, picking up Jennifer, going to 2015, hover-converting the DeLorean again, and then going to 1885. He would just make a few stops in-between before preventing Doc's death.
It's not really the same, but there are certainly similar ideas in this. I never ended up writing it, by the way, but I was considering to do so one day, until I stumbled across this. I guess that, to keep originality, I'll have to cease thinking about this idea. It wasn't really developed anyway, and maybe you could use a few ideas I had, if you ever plan to develop this universe more? Just suggesting.
Anyway, as I said, good work. Very well-written, but then again, most of your fics are.

Date: 2009-09-30 08:12 pm (UTC)And really, I'm not planning on poking around with this more (at least, not at the moment), and I'm certain neither of us is the first to have the idea, soooo. . . .
